Literalmente ‘Melting Pot’ es una comida compuesta por distintos ingredientes que se funden para formar una pasta homogénea. Es a partir de esta metáfora que surge la idea de “mezcla de culturas”. La creencia de que las gentes de diferentes pueblos puedan integrarse a la nueva sociedad a la que llegan, aportando elementos de sus raíces para fundirse en una nueva cultura, es el fenómeno sociológico

elegido por Gonzalo Rubio Mollá para fundar su sello discográfico en septiembre de 2005. La idea de integrar varios estilos de música en un solo proyecto fue el motivo de esta elección. Un sello ecléctico dando cabida a todo estilo musical, aunque con el tiempo, el Drum & Bass se ha convertido en el más recurrente. La actividad de Melting Pot Records se divide en 3 partes:

Hanging lampshades, poppy-smelling air, laser blasters: this record pierces the o***m haze with a full, drug den themed sci-fi four-tracker for Zodiak Commune. Dutchman Roel Dijcks is a regular on the label’s electro axis, maintaining a strict and exacting electro code, his drums and 303 cracking like cables upcycled into whips. ‘Drowning In Midnight Oil’ and ‘Into The Den’ are bring the first hallucinations – admittedly, they’re less Fu Manchu, more Star Wars in sound – while ‘Smoke Dragon’ and ‘The Girl With The Snake’ are the pointier acid bangers, laudanum looseners for a new age.

Lewis Fautzi lands on Mutual Rytm with Beneath The Surface, a six-tracker that keeps its focus squarely on pressure and control. The title cut runs on a tightly wound low-end, releasing in small bursts through hissing synth work rather than any obvious peak. ‘The Hollow Cycle’ tunnels forward with a looping, metallic insistence, while ‘Inner Mechanism’ holds a darker, more submerged tone, its energy diffused but constant. On the B-side, ‘Nonlinear Form’ pares things back into a streamlined, textural drive, before ‘Anamorph’ fractures the rhythm slightly, introducing broken patterns without losing weight.

Frenzy and Vulged founder Isaiah delivers a no-bullsh*t six-tracker that ties itself firmly to early techno’s percussive, functional foundations. Opener ‘Monthly’ sets a punchy, minimal tone with loops that soon tie your mind in knots. ‘Yearly’ and ‘Hourly’ ramp up hypnotic energy through layered percussion and driving basslines and then the back half of the record turns deeper: ‘Real’ strips down into sparse, shimmering territory, while ‘Everlasting’ reintroduces a tougher, darker edge and is closed out by a smoother, bass-forward remix from fellow Frenzy member Beau Didier. Backspin Records is fast becoming a consistent, groove-driven techno staple.

Malmo moods from local musician Martinou on Mule Musiq, addressing a releasing gap dating back to 2023. The four tracks on ‘Ever Changing’ are choice dream-progressors indeed, apparently made up of songs the DJ and vibe-setter has been testing on the road for the past two years at least. It sits comfortably alongside the Studio Barnhus and Nous’klaer work that has so far built his reputation; ‘Unfold’ with its cosmic scape of breaks and four-chords emotionality, and ‘Multitudes’ with its breakthrough air pads and resolute build, like total mountaintop meditation music.

Reedición remasterizada del clásico álbum de James Ruskin editado originalmente en 1998.

Draftsman of the Blueprint label, and known for his Birmingham-influenced techno sound (though he’s outposted in London), James Ruskin knows all the tricks. Further Design came in 1998 and works in an identified strain of UK miminalism, centring on stark and purposeful titles (‘Enter’, ‘Internal’, ‘Form’), evoking a kind of geometric, masonic abstraction; meticulous architecting. This reissue reminds us; it’s aged into a reference point for the likes of Sleeparchive, Surgeon and Luke Slater’s newer works, and remains the LP altarpiece on Blueprint (he’d go full Tresor in the years that followed).
