Literalmente ‘Melting Pot’ es una comida compuesta por distintos ingredientes que se funden para formar una pasta homogénea. Es a partir de esta metáfora que surge la idea de “mezcla de culturas”. La creencia de que las gentes de diferentes pueblos puedan integrarse a la nueva sociedad a la que llegan, aportando elementos de sus raíces para fundirse en una nueva cultura, es el fenómeno sociológico

elegido por Gonzalo Rubio Mollá para fundar su sello discográfico en septiembre de 2005. La idea de integrar varios estilos de música en un solo proyecto fue el motivo de esta elección. Un sello ecléctico dando cabida a todo estilo musical, aunque con el tiempo, el Drum & Bass se ha convertido en el más recurrente. La actividad de Melting Pot Records se divide en 3 partes:

No-nonsense fast techno jank from the Netherlands’ Jsprv35. ‘Tar V35’ could take its name from anything from a newly discovered exoplanet to an industrial strength vacuum cleaner at the design and prototyping stage; clearly, it’s not the nominal content but the sonic form that this record takes that makes it so beguiling. ‘Pacific’, ‘Pimp’, ‘Prolix’ and ‘Retry’ are like murderous factor-colossi gone rogue; their many-limbed, many-belted extensions firing off in all directions as they slowly, but repetitiously and surely gain sentience. Only the tricksy final track is any let-up, although even it functions as a worthy underfloor-heater in its own right.

Marking ten years of operation, the Rotterdam-based label gathers its core artists for a 13-track statement of intent – an exhibition of modern techno’s capacity to balance precision and volatility. Across contributions from Yant, Rene Wise, Kr!Z, Blanka and others, the sound is taut, aerodynamic and steeped in tension. Metallic percussion and dubbed-out pressure drive the early side before the compilation opens into murkier spatial terrain – Holden Federico’s ‘Hydro’ and Cirkle’s ‘Delta State’ drawing breath between sharper assaults. By the closing stretch, Altinbas and Kwartz stretch the architecture into near-collapse, finding emotional resonance in distortion. It’s a portrait of techno as living system.

With its fourteenth release, Barro continues cementing its identity as a techno label unafraid to take chances on fresh voices. This latest offering features Ari Jani —a multifaceted young producer whose unsettling soundscapes pull from a wide spectrum of influences, from EBM’s mechanical pulse to harsh noise’s abrasive textures. Ari Jani’s early work leaned toward rapid-fire, unrelenting techno, as heard on his SilentSøuls release. Beginning in 2022, his sound underwent a metamorphosis, shifting toward decelerated tempos laden with heavy atmospheres and industrial undertones—a transformation clearly audible in Reject Humanity, Embrace Nonexistence, his EP for Valhalla Records. His Mass Memory project sees Ari navigating different sonic territories, centering on noise, ambience, and melody, yet never losing sight of the club’s pulsing heart.

James Shinra lanza la segunda referencia de su propio sello con cuatro temazos originales recién salidos del horno.

James Shinra’s latest instalment in the Shinra Electro Company series shows how much can be done with a small set of tools when they’re handled with care. There’s no attempt to dress these tracks up as statements. Instead, the UK producer concentrates on careful drum-programming and tonal detail that lets acid and rhythm speak. ‘Acid Every Day’ opens with hard, unvarnished drums and a straight 303 line that stays disciplined throughout, its impact coming from eerie persistence. ‘Back’ introduces a softer grain, dubby chords and vocal fragments slipping in and out of the groove with a measured ease. On the flip side, ‘Blip’ shifts the centre of gravity, its skippy, breakbeat-inflected rhythm carried by low-end weight and misted pads in its wake. Closer ‘1310Clap’ brings the acid to the fore again, the line wavering and flaring as the line swells and recedes that settles into a late-night shape.
