PHAT PHIL COOPER – AUTUMN AUDIO ADVENTURES 2026

The last recorded mix of the season here in Ibiza.

As another summer comes to an end and the island starts to slow down, here's a final musical journey before the winter months.

48 tracks weaving through Balearic sounds, dub, disco, soul, leftfield electronics and a few unexpected twists and turns.

Nice to see Mondo Love & Betrayal dropping into Paul Inflyte’s 'In The Basement' series for a guest mix.

Neil ‘Nail’ Tolliday and Henry Claude Scott take us through 11 tracks of 80s synth-pop, early house and club sounds, with music from Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Joyce Sims, Virgo and a few of their own productions.

Their self-titled debut album recently landed on my NuNorthern Soul label, and we've also got an 'Extended Versions' release on the way, featuring dubs, instrumentals and extended mixes from the album.

Really enjoyed reading this interview with Nick Warren.

Some proper wise words in here, and I love his outlook on how things should be. Look after people, build real relationships, don’t get too caught up in status and all the bu****it that can come with this industry, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

I’ve been doing this a long time now and the older I get, the more I realise it’s the people you meet along the way that really matter.

Nick’s definitely one of the good ones.

Well worth a read, and very happy to have him releasing music with us on Through Gods Own Eyes.

Two releases out today that I’m very happy to finally get out into the world.

First up on NuNorthern Soul is T-Bird ‘Beets & Peas EP’.

T-Bird is a California-born, Barcelona-based producer whose musical world takes in jazz, soul, funk, dub and electronic music, pretty much the kind of melting pot that always gets my attention.

Across six tracks he moves through laid-back grooves, dubby textures, jazz-funk, coastal atmospheres and warm electronic soul. There are little nods to Wally Badarou and Quincy Jones along the way, but it all comes together with T-Bird’s own personality and production style.

Then over on Through Gods Own Eyes we head towards a very different dance-floor with Nick Warren ‘Waves’.

Nick’s original is a proper hands-in-the-air-at-dusk record for me, melodic, warm and emotional, with a shuffling breakbeat, deep bass and those dreamy synths slowly doing their thing.

The remixes take it in three different directions too. Paul James Nolan gives it a driving, hypnotic progressive workout, Richard Norris takes things deeper and more psychedelic, while Simon Sheldon taps into that rolling, late-90s progressive house sound.

Two records, two very different energies for two different dance-floors, which pretty much sums up where my musical head has always been.

Feeling emotionally drained at the moment. I've been pushing the music, the label stuff and DJing to the max this summer, trying to see just how much life is left in the old dog. Hahahaha.

It's been a full-on few months, juggling so many different projects, long days, late nights and plenty going on behind the scenes. Sometimes you do find yourself questioning whether all the energy, time and effort is worth it.

Then two things come along that remind you exactly why you do it.

The first is a lovely interview with Mondo Love & Betrayal in Juno Daily, talking about their debut album, which I've had the pleasure of working on and releasing through NuNorthern Soul. Seeing their music and story getting the attention they deserve means a great deal.

The second is a review of Jim's new album, The Curious Case of Existence, released on Vicious Charm, from Balearic Mike. Someone who truly cares about music, has an incredible depth of knowledge and, most importantly, takes the time to really listen.

Reading his thoughts on an album I've been so closely involved with, and an artist I believe in so much, is a wonderful reminder of why I do what I do.

Working in music isn't always easy, especially when you're trying to give every project the time, energy and attention it deserves while still getting out there and doing your own thing behind the decks.

But seeing artists you believe in getting recognition from people who genuinely love and understand music makes all the long days, sleepless nights and emotional ups and downs worthwhile.

This old dog might be a little tired, but there's still plenty of life left in him yet.

Onwards and upwards.

Through Gods Own Eyes is the other record label I run alongside NuNorthern Soul and one that some of you might not be quite as familiar with.

I started TGOE back in 2019 as another outlet for music I liked that didn't necessarily have a home on NuNorthern Soul.

It's definitely the more dancefloor-focused of the two labels, with House music in many of its various forms at the heart of things, but I've never been that interested in tying it down to one particular sound.

Deep, dubby, psychedelic, cosmic, disco, techno, chug... there's a bit of all of that in there, and quite a lot that sits somewhere in between.

I suppose after running labels for as long as I have, you develop a feel for what works together. Not necessarily because everything sounds the same, but because there's a certain attitude or character that connects it.

That's probably the best way of describing TGOE. Good music made by interesting people that we think deserves a home.

Over the years we've worked with artists including Ron Trent, La Mano, Barnaby Bruce, Man Power, Nail plus more, with Nail's brilliant House Fire Records series becoming a big part of the label catalogue. It's a pretty varied bunch, which I think says a lot about what TGOE is about.

Next up is Nick Warrens 'Waves' on 25th September, with remixes from Paul James Nolan, Richard Norris and Simon Sheldon (The Freebooter Lounge). Again, a slightly different direction, but one that feels completely at home on the label.

NUNORTHERN SOUL ALL STARS

We started the All Stars series as a way of handing over the NuNorthern Soul Mixcloud to friends, artists and DJs whose musical taste we trust.

There aren't really any rules. Much like the label itself, it's about joining the dots between different sounds, tempos and eras, and hopefully turning up a few records you haven't heard before.

The latest comes from Zaynah & Jonboy of Cosmica.

Cosmica is a UK-based music project and label with its feet somewhere between Balearic, soul, disco, house and the slightly wonkier corners of the record collection. Which, unsurprisingly, makes them a pretty good fit for us.

Their 70-minute selection moves through music from the likes of Chris Coco, My Friend Dario, Ryo Kawasaki, The Swan And The Lake, Common Saints, Nick & Samantha and plenty more.

A lovely listen from start to finish.
