MADRID
Today is the World Art Day, according to UNESCO. A celebration to promote the development, diffusion and enjoyment of art.
In KT EVENTS we contribute with the strength of our heart to share these values with our guests on every event we organise all around SPAIN.
Today, we can’t think of a better post than the first monographic exhibition of a Spanish artist woman at the Thyssen Museum in MADRID: Isabel Quintanilla.🎨
That’s right, Isabel Quintanilla, one of the main figures of the contemporary realism, is the first Spanish woman the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum of Madrid dedicates a monographic exhibition to her career.
This artist manages to awaken feelings and emotions from simple objects, such as those we find at home, replicating them with precision, so much that can be easily mistaken for photographs.
More than 50 times did she painted a glass of Duralex, and each of them captures our attention and enraptures us with its subtleties. The painter found her inspiration, from the beginning, in the domestic, the intimate and the daily basis.
Quintanilla was part of a group of realism painters in Madrid, both women and men, which also included her husband, Francisco López. Despite the unity that existed in this group, the inequalities between the opportunities received by men and women were notorious, it was, the second half of the XX century.
Hence, Isabel did not have the same recognition as her peers, despite her undeniable talent and technical expertise. The Museum has also decided to pay tribute to the rest of her colleagues in this exhibition too.
Exhibition running until: 02/06/2024
