8 years later… I’m going back to El Max.
In 2017, I had the chance to photograph El Max, Alexandria — one of the city's most authentic and visually distinctive neighborhoods.
At the time, I was simply documenting what I saw:
the boats, the fishermen, the streets, the colors, the textures, and the everyday life around the water.
Years later, I looked back at those photographs and realized that they were more than just pictures.
They were fragments of a place, a moment, and a way of life.
So I decided to bring those photographs together in a visual project:
THE SOUL OF EL MAX
Alexandria, Egypt — 2017
A photographic journey through one of Alexandria's most authentic neighborhoods.
I wanted the project to feel less like a collection of photographs and more like walking through El Max itself — its streets, its waterfront, its people, and its atmosphere.
This project is a small attempt to preserve a moment that was captured almost a decade ago.

THE SOUL OF EL MAXIn 2017, I walked through El Max, Alexandria, carrying a camera and looking beyond the postcard version of the city. What I found was a place shaped by water, work, people, boats, and everyday life.
