Join us in celebrating the Summer Solstice and Sankt Hans at Institut for (X)! This ancient tradition marks the longest day of the year, celebrating the Sun’s strength, warmth, and light. It’s a time to gather around the fire, give thanks to Nature, and enjoy a memorable evening for all ages.

Programme:

Bars and restaurants open, picnic in the park.
Kids’ Activities: Juggling workshop, bubble workshop, flower crown workshop, kids’ disco.

Position: Unpayed internship 3-5 month, between August-December 2024

Working with: Communication and community at Institut for (X)

Position summary:
Your internship will be in the association’s secretarial office, where you will be working closely with our little office team of seven people of various backgrounds. You will be working with ways to improve communication to and amongst members of our association.

What we can offer:
Experience with working in non-profit organization
A place to practice your skills and see your work out in the real world
A chance to bring in your passions and your own creative/artistic practice into the work
A chance to shape your internship and tasks according to what you wish to practice.
Working at the core of an organization of 600 members, linking them together and improving the way we work together

About you:
We imagine that you have a background in digital communication, architecture, experience design, communication, journalism, rhetorics, urban studies or alike. But feel free to surprise us. We speak both Danish and English, in our organization.

About Institut for (X):
​​Institut for (X) is a culture, business and education platform founded in 2009. We are an independent and not-for-profit culture association arising from citizen initiatives. We are located at Godsbanen in the centre of Aarhus, Denmark. We create Institut for (X) as a urban neighbourhood and a cultural platform that is continuously changing, pushes the boundaries of what’s possible and provides inspiration for alternative urban development. We facilitate and enhance cultural activities, combining artistic creativity with business, public debate and public education.

BULLDOZERDAY, F-HOUSE AND WHAT USED TO BE 💛

Before bulldozer day came, and made way for the new School Of Architecture between Godsbanen and Institut For (X), there was the B- and F-House with a garden to ind side, and the skatebowl on the other.

In continuation of the B-house was the long, narrow building of F. F-house was the start-up hub of Institut For (X). It was surrounded by a beautiful garden with hangout-spots, childrens playgrounds and a courtside where different physical activities was hosted such as yoga, sports, volley and the Vikings Club combat training. This spot was the old “entrance” to X, when coming from the city.

Inside the F-house design- and architecture-crews T1000, Spant Studio, Studio Mockup, Træmand and Tetris-Studios had build their own offices and ateliers from the inside, joined by party-club Double Rainbow (Later Oginokken), MC-klubben, and the early days of Plantecaféen.

Bulldozer Day (28th January 2019) came in agreement with the municipality and demolished parts of the culture of Institut For (X). It helped push people to do things today, rather than tomorrow and keeps X intuitive and spontaneous.

THE BEGINNING OF INSTITUT FOR (X) - 1st of October 2009

After carefully searching the city for free m2, Bureau Detours succeeded in finding a location with the proper size and potential for exploitation: Toldboden (The customs house), now the A-house, on the old area of Godsbanen.

A positive dialogue with Jakob Sennels (former technical chief of Kulturhus Aarhus) among others, brightens the opportunity to take over the space permanently. With a solid rhetoric during negotiations, it finally succeeds in getting a verbal commitment from Aarhus Kommune, to take over the keys for the area. The old toldbod is now in the hands of Bureau Detours, with the message “Do it properly!”

A few days later “Remix” is held, a party and celebration of the recent takeover. Many visitors gather this evening and the attendance from the municipality stands out. After the party, inquiries to become a part of the space starts ticking in. Suddenly, the big empty buildings doesn’t seem to be hard to activate. At this time, Bureau Detours only consists of a few people based in Århus, so the interest from the outside is especially welcome.

As the platform grows, it clarifies its need for a name. Because of the constant shift of people and project and with a conscious lack of vision and rules, the name Institut For (X) is chosen. The X represents a variable, which allows the users of the platform to attach different meanings to it.

The houses of X are given a letter, in the order they are taken over. Besides this, new neighborhoods arrives as Industrien, Boxpark I and II and Yurt-landsbyen (The Yurt-village)

Every shift is 4 hours, and you can choose between friday or saturday (or both
