The news that we have all been waiting for: Barring massively negative developments, the Oktoberfest 2022 will take place without conditions and limitations.
Munich's Lord Mayor, Dieter Reiter, announced today that in spite of the political situation and the ongoing Corona pandemic, there is no political justification to once more cancel the Oktoberfest. He added that it is every individual's decision to decide how eager he or she is to celebrate at the popular festival. In his own words, "I am looking forward to a Wiesn 2022 that will be enjoyed by everyone who visits it".
We must be prepared for massive price hikes, though. The energy costs and possible reduction of available seating will definitely take their toll.
"Without limitations" means, as far as I can see, that there will be no requirements regarding vaccination against or proof of recent recovery from Covid-19. This may be subject to change, depending on which influence the current Spring Festival has on the infection statistics.
I am now awaiting responses from Schottenhamel and Marstall, the two tents that have so far offered me the reservations that I have had in the past few years. I have been obliged to reduce the number of tables that I requested, meaning that I will not be able to fulfill all requests that I have received from my clients.
Please understand that risk awareness has been an important factor in this decision, I am not in the financial condition to cover losses by unforeseen cancelations.

Heads up! On 4 April 2022, the Munich District Court decided that agencies are not allowed to offer and sell seats for the Oktoberfest 2022. This applies specifically to the Augustiner, the Bräurosl and the Hofbräu tents.

The agency justified its good faith, calling the "I Agree" button a "binding option purchase" ("verbindlicher Optionserwerb", let that one roll on your tongue) and not a sale. Customers are not being misled, much more they are being informed that they are not purchasing valid tickets to the Oktoberfest.

Let's get this clear: There is no such thing as a "ticket to the Oktoberfest".

The court did not follow the agency's reasoning, saying that "binding" implies the exact opposite; the customers gather the impression that the purchase of Oktoberfest tickets (see above, no such thing) is possible and binding. This is enforced by the offer of "express dispatch" on the web site.

The court decided that the agency's offer is misleading and an infringement of the unfair competition act as the agency could not provide a legally enforceable claim to a reservation in any of the tents mentioned, especially as long as a decision on the Oktoberfest's taking place is open. A mere option, as offered by the agency, must be clearly and unambiguously labeled as such; this was not undertaken by the agency.

The tents have been trying for years to crack down on the secondary reservations market where Oktoberfest reservations are offered at inflated prices in comparison to the actual charges by the tents.

Why am I telling you this? Because I don't work like these bloodsuckers. I ask for your preferences and try to offer you matching tables from the reservations that I make in my name. The tents that I cooperate with have my T&C and my price list, they know that I do not sell off single seats, and they know that I am in personal contact with every group that I seat.

The current chances of the Wiesn actually taking place this year are still up in the air. Not only are we contending with the ongoing pandemic, there is also a war going on within two hours' flight distance combined with a general appeal to conserve energy where possible. There is no consensus among the tent operators, with a minority advocating canceling the event while the speaker of the association of tent operators and its majority are supporting hosting the Wiesn with due consideration of higher energy and staff costs.

Please note: Due to today's invasion (24 Feb 2022) of Ukraine by Russian troops and the high risk of instability and of restrictions in international air travel, I will only be able to fulfill local requests. I am financially not in a situation to sustain losses due to canceled flights or other travel disruptions.
I have also reduced my requests to a minimum, meaning that I may have to restrict the number of seats per person to ten (10).
Providing that the Oktoberfest 2022 even takes place, there will certainly be Corona-related restrictions (sufficient vaccination, proof of recent recovery) and very high security measures.
There will be a newsletter in the next couple of days.

Good news! Plans for the Oktoberfest 2022 are underway. Of course, there will be strict regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these have not yet been introduced but will certainly encompass either proof of sufficient vaccination, or a recent confirmation of a past Covid-19 infection. A third, alternative, requirement might be an anti-gen test not older than 24 hours.
Judging by current legislations, these regulations will apply to every person visiting the Oktoberfest. This means that every person in my clients' groups will be responsible for providing this information on the date of their visit!

Hi all -
Still no PC, I'm expecting a new one on Wednesday.
But enough of my woes. It is now official, and I am sorry, yet not surprised, to confirm that the Oktoberfest will again not be taking place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The risk of undoing the slow improvements that Munich, Bavaria, and Germany have made and creating another international wave of infections is just too high.
I would much rather not see you again this year than lose you to a preventable disease. So, remember which slots you requested this year, and keep your Maßkrüge high and your pretzels crossed that the year of three twos sees us all together again.
I will - hopefully - be able to send out a newsletter again in a few days.

Hi all -

Sorry for the long silence, I have been having intermittent PC problems, leading to its being taken away for repairs.
There is still no news from the City of Munich whether the Oktoberfest will take place this year. Given the current numbers in Germany and the truculent pace of vaccinations, I am not very optimistic.
I have nonetheless secured some pre-reservations, pending this decision. It is possible that I will only be able to offer tables to clients located in Germany due to travel restrictions, even if it does take place.
I will keep you posted and send out the newsletter once my repaired PC (or a new one) is up and running.

I hope that you have made it through the pandemic safely so far and are doing what you can to protect yourselves and others.
Up to now, I have held back on making any plans for this year's Oktoberfest as I am not at all optimistic regarding its actually taking place.
However, I will be sending out my Newsletter #1 soon. Please read the information provided there (which is rather spare, of necessity - I don't have much information myself yet).
Once the City of Munich announces its plans, I will update immediately.
