📚✍ Axel Scheffler is among the most well-known children's book illustrators in the world. His illustrations in books such as ‘The Gruffalo’ to ‘Pip and Posy’ - reach children in over a hundred languages.

📅 On 15 October, he will be speaking at the Frankfurt Kids Conference about the responsibility of children's books in a fragile world.

In this interview, he explains why kindness is not a naive idea, how subtly stories show attitude - and why his new book ‘Welcome’ (Alison Green, Axel Scheffler, Scholastic German Edition: Verlagsgruppe BELTZ) aims to champion friendship and togetherness.

👋 Mabuhay from the Philippines!
From 14-21 May, we visited the Philippines The Philippines as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 for a press trip.

A week full of cultural performances, Philippine cuisine, immersive visits to historical landmarks, bookshops, curated literary events with Philippine authors, publishers and artists. 🌏

📍 May 15: Lucban, San Pablo City: The Pahiyas Festival: The biggest and most colourful harvest festival dates back to 15th-century harvest rites, honoring San Isidro Labrador.

📍 May 16: Manila, Centro Turismo de Intramuros. A get-together with Filipino authors offers a glimpse into the rich history and diversity of Philippine literature. Next: A visit to the 60-year old independent Bookshop Solidaridad.

📍 May 17-19: Northern Luzon & Central Visayas.

🧾 Istorya Studios in Guiguinto, Bulacan: A narrative design studio with the mission to craft original gameplays and print-based products on the history and culture of the Philippines.
🎨 Ili-Likha Artist Village: The vibrant eco-art space is nestled in Baguio City. Meeting national artist Kidlat Tahimik, who established the village in 2014. Designed like a whimsical treehouse, it features architecture with mosaics, stained glass, and woodwork.

📍 May 20: National Library of the Philippines, Manila: Visiting the original “Noli Me Tangere” by national hero José Rizal with a get-together with Filipino Authors at Cubao, Quezon City, afterwards.

The nominees presented their inspiring work on 14 May at the Salone Internazionale del Libro in Turin and the winner is chosen by members of the community following a live session and an open discussion.

This year’s Aficionado Award recipient will be announced in time for this year’s Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025 and the award ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 16 at 11 am at Frankfurt International Stage.

The Aficionado Award is a collaborative initiative of the Aficionado Community, Frankfurter Buchmesse, and the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino created to connect, support, and uplift dedicated publishing professionals.

We look forward to celebrating the winner in Frankfurt this fall!

✈️Traveling the world with German Stories: This was Warsaw International Book Fair 2025!📚

For four days, almost 1,000 authors, translators, illustrators as well as publishing and cultural managers met with the public. Including: our German Collective Stand with over 30 participating exhibitors!

Located in Sala Mamurowa (Stand no 137), visitors could meet representatives of German publishers at our stands, find out the latest trends and awards, and take part in the specialist programmes and events we organise.

🎤A highlight: The "Artificial Intelligence in Publishing Meets Literary Translation" discussion with Prof. Dr. Vera Spillner and André Hansen, moderated by Mikolaj Tajchman.The event was organized by Polnische Buchkammer P*K and Goethe-Institut Warschau.

💃A special announcement: The Warsaw International Book Fair and Frankfurter Buchmesse announced their plan to launch a new German-Polish fellowship programme. Stay tuned!
