⚙️ Sand-laden fluids erode hydraulic components long before mechanical failure occurs. To stop this wear mechanism, KSB has developed NoriResist, a novel diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating that triples the service life of pump impellers and wear rings.
Deposited at low temperatures to prevent thermal warping, the carbon layer achieves a hardness between 4,000 and 8,000 HV on cast iron and steel. Because the coating is only a few micrometres thick, component weight, dimensional accuracy, and hydraulic contours remain intact, eliminating the need to re-balance impellers after treatment.
Field trials in severe wastewater applications show that components maintain constant hydraulic efficiency after thousands of operating hours. The chemically inert, recyclable layer withstands temperatures up to 500 °C and releases zero heavy metal or polymer particles into the fluid stream.
