With digital DJing, there's a danger of creating mixes that sound too smooth, too perfect, and therefore too static.
To counteract this, I've been continuously expanding my set-up lately. Today, besides the track decks, I also play with an extra remix deck, an Elektron Model Samples and a Zen Delay from Erica Synth / Ninja Tune. I use these devices to add extra top loops, sounds, delay effects and more to the mix, making it richer, but more importantly, rougher and less polished.
This weekend was the first time I recorded a longer, spontaneous session with this set-up. I'm pretty happy with the sound that came out of it. I feel like I've come a lot closer to my desired sound.
And now, have fun on the dub house trip! (With a slightly different ending 😉 )
