Hot Chip

In 2019 they released A Bath Full Of Ecstasy, the last of a total of seven albums.

Janelle Monáe

The last album by Janelle Monáe will probably be on numerous annual charts. Because Dirty Computer is a dazzling, sometimes ingenious, strong-hold pop album, a kind of album that has not been around for a long time. The songwriter, producer and actress (Hidden Figures, Moonlight) caused quite a stir with the Prince Vibes of the pre-release single Make Me Feel, which was also due to the video featuring Monáe alongside Westworld star Tessa Thompson. Tracks like Pynk, her duet with Grimes, which she sings in the video in her meanwhile world-famous “vagina trousers”, or Screwed feat. Zoë Kravitz were similarly irresistible – and again sexually charged and highly political at the same time. She has been rarely performing live, but now Janelle Monáe is coming to Germany in July 2019. It will be interesting to see what this so powerful and visually working artist will bring to stage.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

For a band that released 5 albums in a year, the past 12 months have been pretty quiet around King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. But a few days ago, the Aussie rockers returned with the new single Cyboogie. The 7-minute electric shuffle filters everything that makes up the band by a Moroder filter and lets assume that the 7-headed, constantly self-reinventing free-rock Formation has spent the last few months working exclusively with synthesizers. Cyboogie is just a taste of what we can expect from King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard in 2019. After a sold-out US tour, festival concerts and tours in Europe, including London, Russia and Istanbul, Berlin is now expecting one of the band’s greatest shows in Germany.

Mac DeMarco

Mac DeMarco releases his fourth album Here Comes The Cowboy in May of this year and plays his biggest shows in Germany in November.

The sequel of the 2017 album This Old Dog, dubbed by Entertainment Weekly as the best romantic tunes the well-known romantic has ever penned, is the first release on Mac’s record label. At the same time, Nobody is the wonderfully lurching lead single of the album, to which DeMarco has also made a video.

Mac DeMarco describes his album like this: This one is my cowboy record. Cowboy is a term of endearment to me, I use it often when referring to people in my life. Cowboy hats and do cowboy activities. These are not the people I’m referring to.

Here Comes The Cowboy was written, recorded and produced during the first two weeks of the exceptionally rainy January 2019 at DeMarco’s J**z Jazz Studios in Los Angeles. With the exception of some keyboard tracks of his friend and touring band member Alec Meen, DeMarco has recorded it himself. Joe Santarpia, Mac’s live sound engineer, helped with the production.

The rusty, old grin pin on the cover Mac has bought from a man. Somewhere in the mountains of the Nantahala National Forest between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Asheville, North Carolina.

Mitski

We all expect different things from the artists that we love. They should be strong, role models. At the same time, we expect a certain vulnerability and sensitivity and the talent to transmit what we all think and feel. Mitski manages this balancing act. But at the same time she can break with these claims and develop a form of aloofness from strength and weakness that further winds this contradiction into a spiral turn. This is the great art of Mitski Miyawaki, who also makes her latest album Be The Cowboy a special sound experience.

Oh Sees + special guest: Aluk Todolo

From Orinoka Crash Suite and OCS and Orange County Sound, from Thee Oh Sees to The Oh Sees and Oh Sees – John Dwyer, singer and guitarist and creative mastermind behind the energetic crew from California, had more than a name for his band, but it does not matter anyway. Since 1997, Oh Sees and all aliases have been an institution, not only for quality music, but also for volume, energy, ambition and unstoppable creativity. For example, the album _Memory Of A Cut Off_Head_ published in late 2017, is a rather quiet, acoustic album, while the release Orc, which just appeared 3 months earlier, is a rather explosive-herbaceous-gaudy record, the most recent Release of the group Oh Sees but Smote Reverser is significantly harder and more progressive than any record ever. For John Dwyer, only one thing seems certain: Do not stop, go on and on.

UK-based synth pop legends OMD are coming to Berlin for their 40th anniversary to perform at the Tempodrom. There will be a reissue of their first four classic albums on this occasion. As part of the celebrations, a special 40th Anniversary book will be released telling the story of OMD from their beginnings as a garage band to their latest sold-out tours. It contains memories of the band members, other music artists influenced by them, famous admirers and loyal fans. In addition, later this year, an ultimate singles collection will come out.
