8MM Bar: 20 Years of serving Berlin's underground alternative music scene, Often referred to as one of the most important bars in Berlin, 8MM's legendary influence on the local music scene began in 2002 and has evolved into much more than just a bar, including among other things, a live music venue, a festival, a record label and its own Distillery. 8MM is renowned around the world as an outpost for touring musicians, and has helped launch the careers of local musicians. But the beauty about 8MM is that at its core it is still just a neighborhood bar run by good people that like good music, as when we started.

Following two lauded EPs on cult label South of North—Tambal (2022) and Biya Ba Man (2024)—Amsterdam-based interdimensional dub group Devon Rexi prepare to release their much-anticipated debut album, recorded by and featuring the elusive 5 Gate Temple devotee, musician and producer John T. Gast.

The group is formed by a core trio of Nicola Reverda (Nicolini) on drums and vocals, Nushin Naini on bass and vocals, and Goya van der Heyden (La Rat) on samples and effects. In this formation, they skirt and flirt around a motorik kraut-rock mentality with an indubiously dub-laden physicality and an uncategorisable sense of experimentation.

The shifted realities of Devon Rexi’s songs arrive like quantum conjurings, as if their frequencies are echoing from the furthest wormholes of space. As much as they create something fantastical and yet-unheard, their priority is in understanding vulnerability and friction, reality and fragility, mythologies and everyday resistances. They do this artfully and honestly through an almost deceptively simple arrangement of percussion, bass, and melody.

has long been a presence in independent American experimental music. One of those souls reared in the borderlands where rural Appalachia begins to melt into the Midwest, where the shadows of DuPont Chemical and Perdue Pharma lay over thousands of lives.

Reaching for any sonic tools without pretense of recapitulating any musical tradition, his work evades the confines of genre, but has found a home amidst both the more personal and off-kilter visions from Americana noise and industrial music, and the fringes of electronic music.

Morgan’s live performances are notoriously potent and surreal. The 2024 release of his acclaimed debut LP Purity on Orange Milk Records underscores the commitment to his craft and to the wider world of challenging electronic music.

“The Mirror” is Morgan’s follow-up to Purity, and his most realized project to date.

Known for their wounded country and barreling noise-rock sound, Twine was formed in Adelaide, Australia, in 2021, initially as a solo outlet for Tom Katsaras' experiments in brash, country-inflected rock. Their latest EP, Deer in the Headlights, follows the Australian Music Prize-nominated debut New Old Horse (2024), a tender yet eruptive exploration of identity and wayward relationships. Now based in Melbourne, the band has evolved into an entirely new form, further exploring the tender relationship between noise and vulnerability alongside new members Xanthe Rook (Recitals), James Dimick (Craning), and Vindi Ferguson (kisses). Known for their exhilarating live shows, Twine has supported Unwound (USA), The Hard Quartet (USA), and Mclusky (UK), and has played sold-out shows across Australia and New Zealand, with festival appearances at Laneway, Camp A Low Hum, BIGSOUND, and SXSW Sydney.

On Don’t Be Funny Without Me (DBFWM), Le Ren tells us, “I love the man I wanted to be,” as a matter of tender fact. She is funny while devastating, self-aware and a little self-deceiving. Across the record, she holds those contradictions close: shameless and ashamed, honest but still searching for a version of the truth that hurts a little less.
At its core, DBFWM explores love, jealousy, and the uneasy ways the two often intertwine. Across the album, Le Ren reflects on emotional entanglements from her twenties and the lingering push-and-pull between attachment, envy, and self-awareness. The result is a record that is both tender and sharply observant, balancing sincerity with a quiet, self-protective humour. Le Ren, if you didn’t already know, is the funny one.
After touring extensively opening for acts like Jeff Tweedy, Devendra Banhart, and Men I Trust, Le Ren returned to Canada to record the album in Mountain Grove, Ontario. Self-produced alongside old friends Fez Gielen and Jonas Bonetta, DBFWM carries a distinctly Canadian sensibility—Le Ren’s lyrics are imbued with that northern endurance, like watching the sunset fade behind the cracked asphalt on avenue du Parc, or from the parking lot of your favourite On Route. Sonically, DBFWM is more expansive than its predecessor: fuller arrangements, layered harmonies, and driving instrumentation that complement Le Ren’s angelic vocals. The record evokes the warmth of classic influences like Emmylou Harris and the emotional edge of Gillian Welch, while remaining firmly rooted in her own evolving voice.
Don’t Be Funny Without Me ends where it begins: with Le Ren craving an uncomplicated, pure love—something closer to her relationship with music itself. In doing so, she sings her evolving, aspirational self into being. Aching and intoxicating, the record feels like a post-breakup road trip with your best friend: no fixed destination, a trunk full of baggage (literal and figurative) and mottled sunlight warming your face through the car window.

DRIFT has long existed as the singular vision of artist Nathalia Bruno, with the arrival of guitarist Max Oscarnold, drummer Finn Kidd, and keyboardist Lucy Lucifer, that solitary language mutates into a volatile wall of sound, reflecting a space where violence and restraint remain in constant negotiation.
Situated within the psychic topography of Kingsland Road, Bruno renders a distinctly London condition, one defined less by spectacle than by a slow, ambient nihilism. Delivered in a Nico-esque baritone, her voice rarely seeks catharsis, instead observing with forensic detachment. There are echoes of The Velvet Underground’s unsentimental urban tableaux and Suicide’s metropolitan psychodramas, yet these references function less as homage than as a shared methodology.

Few artists have navigated Manchester's underground with quite the same fluidity as RenzNiro.

Emerging from the fertile overlap between grime, experimental rap and the city's wider leftfield music community, his work has steadily carved out a space where devotional introspection, razor-edged lyricism and exploratory production coexist without compromise.

Across a catalogue that has quietly grown in scope over recent years, RenzNiro has developed a voice defined as much by its emotional directness as its formal ambition. His music draws from grime's intensity but rarely settles there, instead moving through ambient electronics, live instrumentation and fractured club influences with a confidence that feels truly instinctive, never self-conscious. The result is a sound which is at once deeply personal while remaining connected to a broader ecosystem of artists pushing at the edges of UK rap and contemporary sound. That world reaches its fullest expression yet on No Weapon Shall Prosper, RenzNiro;s debut mixtape released in July, 2026. Developed over several years alongside producer wudini and featuring contributions from collaborators including Klein, Space Afrika, 00ab, Ceesho and Big Animal Theory, the mixtape unfolds less as a collection of tracks than a document of creative evolution. Guitar, viola and saxophone drift through weightless electronics and heavy low-end pressure.
