Issue Five of The Ceremony Edit is out today.

This month I've been writing about what happens in the hour before a ceremony begins, and the weeks of quiet work that lead up to it. Specifically about how I collaborate with photographers and videographers, why I reach out the moment a couple tells me who they've booked, and what that preparation makes possible on the day itself.

If you work in the wedding industry, or alongside couples who are planning something meaningful, I hope there's something in here that resonates.

I was delighted to create a beautiful personal ceremony for two soulmates and best friends and cheer them on in this special location ! There is simply magic in the air here and everyone is filled with a sense of wonder at this location high above lake Lucerne. Ii heard one guest say it looks unreal. Yes you really have to be here !

At 900 metres above sea level the spectacular Villa Honegg sits in the most perfect spot for breathtaking views of mountains and the bluest of lakes in the valley below.

H and D brought their dearest people to share in their love story which I told to them and to the mountains. They trusted me with a script they were hearing for the first time with their guests. It was an emotional and joy filled ceremony with rituals that contained special meaning for them both.

A ring warming to emphasise the important bond they were making and the history behind one of the rings too. A hand tying involving their parents with cords of green pink gold and white represented qualities they value. I created the colour blessings for their marriage and their future together and explained how we were also honouring H‘s Irish heritage.

A commitment was made, first looks were shared, private words were spoken and traditional vows were made. A marriage was celebrated with ch*****ne and speeches, dancing and of course cutting a beautiful cake and sharing their first sweet moment as husband and wife.

Following a gorgeous day with A and M at Solton Manor followed immediately by a wonderful trip to Edinburgh I came home and unpacked and opened this card from the wedding.

A and M have been amazing to work with, their family and friends were a delight to spend time with and now their kind words fill me with happiness and gratitude.

What an absolutely idyllic location for today’s bilingual ceremony for A and M and their families and friends!

Yesterday’s rehearsal went so smoothly and it’s been a delight to meet everyone that’s so closely involved and prepare for a memorable wedding in this romantic setting.

I can’t wait to welcome everyone later today and to see the joy in their faces!

Lausanne and the Beau-Rivage palace on the lake was the stunning setting for Saturday’s wedding for R and O. It was a truly beautiful setting for their love story and marriage vows in front of their family and closest friends.

They included a surprise Rose giving ritual for their parents, thanking them for their wisdom, support, encouragement and the unconditional love given to them both throughout their lives.

A simple love story of two people who found that home was not a place but a person, someone to share life with, someone to laugh with, someone to dream with and to be your authentic self with.

Congratulations R and O and thank you so much for choosing me as your celebrant. It’s been a pleasure stand with you!

I’m here having breakfast at my hotel in Lausanne Switzerland on a gorgeous day which later this afternoon will be spent at a fabulous venue here overlooking the lake.

I can’t wait to lead the ceremony for R and O and help them celebrate their wedding day!

The UK government is consulting on the biggest change to wedding law in almost 200 years, and one of the central questions is whether independent celebrants like me should be allowed to legally marry couples.
Right now, the legal bit and the meaningful bit of a wedding are often two separate things. This consultation is asking whether that needs to stay true.
It closes 24 September 2026, and it is open to couples as much as to anyone in the industry. Swipe through for what is actually being proposed.
