new york city… essential. the city has had a huge influence on house music. places like the paradise garage or the gallery and people like frankie knuckles, loleatta holloway, gladys pizarro or larry levan created a legacy that made house what it is today.
as I got into DJing through house back in around 2010, playing my The Lot Radio set like this felt quite poignant.
the idea for my approach came to life on my pre-gig record shopping stroll Boom Service Records: I decided I would play the set strictly from the gems I found that day. a plan that came with a good amount of luck (what’s gonna be the digs?) and a bit of pressure, cause I couldn’t check and clean each vinyl properly.
eventually most records have that new york touch which is cool. also on the technical side it went smoothly - just this one record by Can Khan Oral aka bizz O.D. had apparently been rinsed: it was actually skipping SO on point during the stream that I didn’t even notice. so I mixed the next one in and the rest is history 🤡 it’s fun tho and part of the vinyl game I guess :)
