Tonight, the last Kiezsalon weekender of the season begins with a sold-out show in Moabit's Heilige-Geist-Kirche, featuring three Berlin premieres: Harry Gorski-Brown, Balladeste, and Tristan Perich.

Doors open at 19:00, and music starts at 20:00 CET.

Montréal-based violinist Jessica Moss first came to prominence as a member of Thee Silver Mt. Zion. Her latest album Unfolding draws from post-classical, drone, and industrial/metal.

Glasgow-based guitar veteran Richard Youngs has been active in the UK underground for more than 40 years; his diverse output, tallying well over 150 albums, defies any definitive discography.

Under the alias C. Lavender, New York City-based interdisciplinary sound artist Lavender Suarez makes music that “can be colossal and compact all at once,” as put by Bandcamp Daily.

Sound artist and contemporary composer Tristan Perich's work is inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math, physics, and code.

His 2004 release ‘1-Bit Music’ was the first album ever issued as a microchip, programmed to synthesise his composition live. His 2010 follow-up, ‘1-Bit Symphony,’ was called “sublime” by New York Press and the Wall Street Journal said: “Its oscillations have an intense, hypnotic force and a surprising emotional depth.”

At this Friday’s Kiezsalon, Perich works with the 120-year-old Walcker organ at the Heilige-Geist-Kirche. He joins bagpiper Harry Gorski-Brown and string duo Balladeste.

Based in Glasgow, Harry Górski-Brown makes music which often draws from traditional Scottish music, performing using voice, pipes (big and small), fiddle, and electronics.

His album ‘Durt Dronemaker After Dreamboats’ focused on Scottish Gaelic songs, on which Rootsworld wrote: “While these are new takes on old songs, they sound deeply rooted in the soil and stone, uncompromising in the way they’re presented.”

He makes his Berlin debut at the Heilige-Geist-Kirche on Friday, 11 September, along with Balladeste and Tristan Perich.

The London-based duo Balladeste, comprised of violinist Preetha Narayanan and cellist Tara Franks, merge contemporary classical, Indian classical, baroque influences, and folk traditions into a rich, contemplative blend of texture and melody — ancient yet modern, devotional yet boldly experimental.

Balladeste will perform at the Heilige-Geist-Kirche on Friday, 11 September, along with Harry Gorski-Brown and Tristan Perich.

On Friday, 11 September, the Kiezsalon heads to Moabit for the very first time. At the gothic Heilige-Geist-Kirche we present the Berlin premieres of Glasgow-based bagpiper Harry Gorski-Brown and London string duo Balladeste, as well as NYC composer Tristan Perich, who will activate the church’s Walcker 120-year-old organ.

Electroacoustic composer Harry Gorski-Brown’s recordings are largely of Scottish-Gaelic folk songs, arranged for pipes, voice, bouzouki, fiddle, and electronics.

As Balladeste, violinist Preetha Narayanan and cellist Tara Franks merge contemporary classical, Indian music, baroque influences, and folk traditions into a rich, contemplative blend of texture and melody.

Sound artist Tristan Perich makes work inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of maths, physics, and code. He uses barebones computing to create what The Wire calls “gorgeous music through elementary additive processes.”

Last weekend, the Kiezsalon returned to the KINDL brewery for two sold-out nights featured a suite of Berlin debuts, with performances that expanded genre and expectations alike.

The next Kiezsalon is coming up in less than three weeks. The weekend starts at Heilige-Geist-Kirche in Moabit on Friday, 11 September, and finishes in Dahlem on Saturday at the Museum Europäischer Kulturen, with our last open-air of the year. Two days, two neighbourhoods, six shows.

Over three sold-out days, each one with four concerts, the Kiezsalon made its very first visit to the Akademie der Künste at Pariser Platz.

Across three packed nights, we hosted a wide range of Berlin debuts spanning both genre and format, including a world premiere piece by Limpe Fuchs and Grischa Lichtenberger.
