I never planned to stand behind the decks 🎧
For the longest time, I was the one vanishing into the dancefloor, not the one people were looking at. There was a unique magic in that: not being seen, but being carried. By the bass, the freedom, the feeling of disappearing for a while and somehow becoming more myself at the same time.
Becoming a DJ never felt obvious. It happened slowly… against a lot of doubt. I loved the feeling music gave me much more than being seen. And even after all these years, I still question myself. Sometimes, that little voice still creeps in before a set — asking whether I really belong here, whether I'm good enough, or whether I'm too far from what people expect a DJ to be.
Being a woman in this world can come with its own challenges. Too often, it means being underestimated, questioned, or reduced to things that have absolutely nothing to do with music. So you need to learn to trust your voice, to take up space, to stand your ground, even when it doesn’t always feel easy.
And this feeling has only gotten tougher in a time when DJing isn't enough. Today, you’re also expected to be visible all the time. Present. Online. Performing even when you’re not on stage, while you're tired, navigating your health, balancing a full-time job with weekends, and trying to hold it all together.
But maybe some of us don’t find our place in music because we handle everything perfectly or because we’re fearless. Maybe we find it while being scared, and keep returning to the thing that moves us most.
Today, I’m thinking about all the women who keep showing up anyway — in their own way, with their own voice, in their own rhythm. The ones who create, play, doubt themselves, grow through it, and still bring their heart and something real into the night.
One thing is clear: The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out and do it. Because as an artist, courage is mastery of fear, not absence of fear. So shine bright. Dare to be yourself… everyone else is already taken.
Happy International Women’s Day! ❤️
