as a former DJ, people would often ask me what I think about the current state of music (expecting me to say it’s cooked). art is subjective. something that may not sound good to you may sound great to someone else. that’s why it’s important to seek out what you’re looking for.

DJs used to break the records, but as time has evolved, it seems as if playing music is more about what’s popular & familiar than what’s fresh & different. how are DJs supposed to break new records if people only wanna hear what they’ve heard on TikTok?

that’s why it’s up to you as an individual to seek out the music that you want to hear, you can’t count on the mainstream to appease your taste. there’s millions of artists on Spotify, plenty of playlists, & plenty of ways to do research.
