Carlos Quintero-Peña is a PhD student in Computer Science at Rice University, working under the supervision of Lydia Kavraki and Anastasios Kyrillidis. He was honored to have received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2019 to start his doctoral studies. He is interested in understanding how to plan safe motions for robots in unstructured environments. His goal is to provide robots with the capabilities of autonomously deciding and acting in environments that may have noisy or incomplete information. To this end, he has explored the use of optimization and data-driven models that enable the robots to perform complicated tasks safely and reliably.

Irvin López Garcia received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), unidad Azcapotzalco in Mexico City, in 2001. The M.Sc. degree from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Mexico City, in 2005, and the Ph.D. degree in Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mexico City, in 2012. He is a full-time Professor in the energy Department at UAM, unidad Azcapotzalco in Mexico City. His current research interests include the analysis and control of electric machinery and wind energy conversion systems.

Postdoctoral scholar in Applied Mathematics, Universidad De Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain. Doctor in Physics and Mathematics, Universidad de Granada, Granada, Spain.  Master’s in Mathematical Sciences, Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia.  Master’s in Physics and Mathematics, Universidad de Granada, Granada, Spain. Bachelor in Mathematics, Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia. 
Professor Rivera’s research focuses on using mathematical analysis and differential equations to understand physical, biological, and economic problems. He uses mathematical tools like Perturbation theory, Bifurcation theory, Dynamic Optimization, and Global Continuation Methods to predict and explain the behavior of various dynamical systems, most of them coming from nonlinear oscillators such as satellites (In Celestial Mechanics: Restricted N-body problems), nonlinear microelectromechanical devices and optimal control problem in bioeconomic models.

Alejandro Garcés Ruíz is a full professor at the Department of Electric Power Engineering, Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira. His research is focused on optimization and control for power systems applications, including convex optimization, model predictive control, optimal control, and passivity-based control applied to problems related to microgrids, HVDC transmission, operation of power systems, and power systems dynamics and stability. Dr. Garces is a senior member of IEEE and a Senior researcher at the National Research System in Colombia. In addition, he is an associate editor in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and IET-Renewable Power Generation.
