I don’t mean to be a downer, but I know that many of you in the industry are struggling right now. I know I am.

It’s a very strange time, and everything feels so unpredictable. My bookings are all over the place. Busy when I’m usually quiet, quiet when I’m usually busy. Turnaround of weddings super short or super long.

So this one goes out to you, my wedding industry friends. Our business can be lonely, but I’m here for a chat, a hug, a brainstorm, a coffee or a wine. Hit me up.

Loves ya! We’ll get there, I’m sure x

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but sometimes it takes a village to pull off a DIY wedding, and that’s exactly what Maggie and Kenny’s day felt like.

Seeing their friends and family come together to set up the ceremony - from Maggie’s dad and brother making and setting up the arbour, to Kenny’s aunt baking their cake, guests arranging chairs, and Maggie’s granny being gently helped to the altar to deliver the sweetest reading - it was so clear to me that this incredible group of people had poured their hearts into creating the magical day they deserved.

Got to share the love with the star that is

CHARMAINE ❤️ CONNOR

‘Roxy was absolutely incredible as our wedding celebrant. She made the whole process feel easy, relaxed, and very enjoyable. She took the time to get to know us and created a ceremony that felt personal, meaningful, and completely tailored to us.

On the day, she brought the perfect balance of warmth, professionalism, and calm energy. Everything flowed seamlessly, and we didn’t have to worry about a thing. So many of our guests commented on how beautiful and engaging the ceremony was, and that’s all thanks to Roxy.

We’re so grateful we chose her to be part of such an important moment in our lives. We couldn’t recommend her more highly.’

I am so lucky as a celebrant to work at some of Brisbane’s most fabulous venues, and I do have some favourites, though this wasn’t an easy list to create. My criteria was ‘Would I marry there?’ and the answer to all of these is ‘Yes!’

So, shout out to:

brisbane

And thank you to them for always looking after me as a vendor, and for creating something so magical for couples and their guests.

15 years a celebrant.

Yep. This year marks 15 years since I started this celebrant malarkey. Little did I know that what started as a ‘side hustle’ would:

❤️ become my full-time job
❤️ fly me to various countries
❤️ allow me to marry almost 900 couples
❤️ motivate me into starting my own registry style venue
❤️ honour me with becoming the Queensland Local Leader for
❤️ ignite a passion for training and mentoring others
❤️ give me opportunities to deliver workshops, webinars, and speak at celebrant conferences nationally and internationally
❤️ visit some of the most beautiful spots that I wouldn’t otherwise visit
❤️ allow me to develop some incredible friendships with other celebrants and vendors
❤️ challenge and excite me as regularly as it does

It really is the best job in the world. I truly, truly love it. I look back at baby Roxy Celebrant and think ‘What an adventure you’re about to have!’

Thank you to every single person who has supported me on the way. Every couple who has trusted me. Every photographer, wedding planner, venue, supplier, who has referred me. Every friend and family member who has understood that the hustle is real and my job isn’t 9-5, M-F.

Will I still be doing this for another 15 years? Well, I imagine I’ll be past my prime by then, but as I don’t have a retirement plan (hello self employment!), as long as couples keep choosing me, and as long as this body and mind of mine is alert, I don’t see why not!

Handfastings - I don’t do them super often, but am more than happy to include one in your ceremony.

Elle and Ben wanted a ceremony with just their closest that was meaningful and intentional. Guests warmed the hand fasting cords before the ceremony started, and I was so impressed with how many of them really go into this, holding these cords in their hands, closing their eyes, and really concentrating on what blessings or wishes they wanted to pass onto Elle and Ben.

Every wedding I do is different and that’s what makes my job so interesting. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… I love my job!

A bumble success story! These two - hooley dooley - just PERFECT for each

They told me they wanted their ceremony to feel fun and light, and it was so easy to deliver exactly that.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, god I love my job.

It’s International Women’s Day, and I wanted to share this artwork created by my daughter

A reminder that women come in every shape, colour, background, culture, identity and story - and the world is far better for it.

I’ve had the honour as a celebrant to work with incredible women for 15 years: brides, partners, mothers, daughters, friends and witnesses. Women who support, uplift, protect, nurture, lead and love fiercely.

And today I’m also celebrating the young women coming up behind me - creative, thoughtful and brave enough to imagine a more inclusive world.

Also a big shout-out to my other daughters who takes on challenges and continues to remind me that although life can be hard, we are strong.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the extraordinary women out there.

When I mentor other celebrants over a certain age, one of their concerns which often comes up is ‘How do I compete with all the younger celebrants around?’

My answer? You don’t. If a couple want a young celebrant, good for them. But us ‘older’ celebrants come with a whole lot of life experience behind us, and that, in itself, is a super-power. So, embrace it, use it as a marketing tool, and remember that some couples will want those skills that you bring.

Incidentally, when I used AI for these images, it made me into a much prettier and younger version of myself so I photoshopped my real face into these images apart from the last one as that was too hard. Forgive me for the deception, please and thank you.

A few life updates for those who are interested.

Firstly, how are we in February already, right?! January, I did zero weddings, but if you thought that meant I was lounging around watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race and True Crime docos on repeat, well you’d be wrong. Here’s what’s been going on:

Alter Albion:

As you may know, I opened up my very own wedding venue in November, which is an alternative to registry office weddings. Starting a new business from scratch is a lot, but bookings are coming in, and people are noticing us.

We’re hosting a Wedding Open Day on 1st March with our .brisbane and so I’ve been liaising with vendors + promoting this event. I will be there with my Roxy Celebrant and my Alter Albion hats on. Let me know if you’re coming!

We held a photoshoot with and had the best day. The gratitude I have to Todd and Alyda is immeasurable. Our models were amazing, so thanks to them too. Just incredible.

Roxy Celebrant:

January is traditionally a busy time for enquiries, and this year has been no different. I’ve been meeting so many wonderful new couples, and my calendar is getting full for 2026 (and even some 2027 bookings) so get in quick! I’ve even had a booking in Singapore, and I’m going to take a couple of weeks off after to travel around Malaysia, so if you have any travel hints, pop them below please and thank you.

The Celebrant Society (TCS):

We’re planning the Celebrant Conference in Melbourne, 25 + 26 May, and hooley dooley, it’s gonna be a corker! If you’re a celebrant and want to network, learn new skills, and hang out with the funnest people ever, then come join us

Personal Life:

Dogs. Friends. Gardening. Gym. Some gin. Some wine. Some cheese. Same as usual.

So that’s my update. Over and out. Roxy x
