The IAPCO mission is to raise the standards of service amongst its members and other sectors of the meetings industry by means of continuing education and interaction with other professionals. Vision
IAPCO is the international accreditation member-driven association for Professional Congress Organisers around the world. Its members embrace the following Core Values:

They are proud of their profession; they live up to the ‘P’ in PCO

They get involved; they are a small and active group taking responsibility for their association and the industry at large

They are extra-ordinary; they care about delivering the highest quality of professional services and make decisions accordingly

💡 What does it mean for a PCO to think alongside its clients?

In IAPCO’s The PCO Issue #125, IAPCO Council Member Benoît Dubuisson, Managing Director of Downtown europe Europe (Europa Group), reflects on a quiet shift: clients increasingly look to PCOs to navigate uncertainty, test ideas and help shape decisions.

He explores how AI can provide another space for challenging assumptions and considering options. Yet the judgement that turns complexity into clarity remains human: trust, timing and an understanding of what clients may not say aloud.

A late change to the host year could have disrupted BSG LIVE’25. Instead, it became an opportunity to create a more inclusive congress with lasting benefits for participants, the local community and the destination.

Led by IAPCO Accredited PCO TFI Lodestar, and delivered in partnership with the British Society of Gastroenterology, Glasgow Convention Bureau and the Scottish Event Campus, BSG LIVE’25 achieved increased attendance, a 24% increase in international delegates, greater accessibility through expanded language support and live captioning, and stronger participation from nurses, patient representatives and charities.

The impact extended well beyond the venue. Public health initiatives, including ‘Love Your Liver’ and ‘Colin the Colon’, took practical health education into the Glasgow community, while local partnerships supported sustainability, community engagement and the creative recycling and upcycling of event materials.

💡 What if a PCO’s most valuable work happens before the congress begins?

In IAPCO's The PCO Issue #125, Fu Kei Cheong, CMP, Co-founder of Anderes Fourdy Events and Adjunct Associate Professor at Taylor's University explores why clients increasingly need PCOs to help them make better decisions, not simply execute them.

From testing a congress’s financial assumptions to building destination bids with genuine purpose and planning for disruption, he identifies three shifts in the modern PCO’s role: commercial stewardship, destination strategy and risk leadership.

IAPCO leaders and senior representatives from IAPCO Accredited PCOs met in Vienna on 28 and 29 September for a two-day Advisory Board programme focused on “Strengthening Vienna’s Competitive Edge.”

Hosted with IAPCO Destination Partner Meeting Destination Vienna (vienna.info) represented by the Vienna Convention Bureau, the programme explored how Vienna can continue to convert the right international congress opportunities and maintain its competitive position as client expectations, incentive models and destination partnerships evolve.

The Advisory Group forms part of a broader strategic relationship that began with an IAPCO Council Meeting and stakeholder engagement workshop in Vienna in spring 2025, evolving into a formal Destination Partnership in January 2026. The September Advisory Board meeting marked the next stage in this ongoing collaboration.

The Advisory Board included IAPCO President Sissi Lignou (AFEA Congress), IAPCO Council Members Ajay Bhojwani (MCI Middle East | MCI Group), Benoît Dubuisson (Downtown Europe | Europa Group) and Ginevra De Bellis (OIC Group), IAPCO Past President Ori Lahav (Kenes Group), IAPCO CEO Martin Boyle, and IAPCO members Patrizia Buongiorno (AIM Group International) and Delphine Baudouin (K.I.T. Group GmbH).

💡 What does it take to bring an entire sector onto the world stage?

In IAPCO's The PCO Issue #125, Lindsay McClenaghan of Abbey Conference & Events shares how the inaugural Global Agritourism Conference helped Scottish Agritourism welcome more than 550 delegates from 50 countries.

From Learning Journeys through working farms and menus sourced largely from Scottish producers to coordinating government, destination and venue partners, Abbey Conferences’ role reached well beyond event logistics.

🌎 IAPCO at SDQ MICE 2026

From 21–23 September, SDQ MICE 2026, organised by the Santo Domingo Hotel Association (Asociación de Hoteles de Santo Domingo), brought government officials, opinion leaders and meetings industry professionals together in Santo Domingo to advance the Dominican Republic’s international meetings ambitions.

As the global voice for professional congress organisers, IAPCO championed its Members’ expertise and the business events industry’s role in economic and social development.

In his keynote, CEO Martin Boyle noted that international business event participants can generate up to US$2,500 in economic impact per visit, almost twice the impact of a leisure visitor. He outlined how destinations can earn organisers’ confidence, with IAPCO Accredited PCOs providing the expertise to deliver reliably, manage risk and show communities the value of international events.
