When you spot the perfect bunch of grapes and think: yes, obviously the engagement ring belongs there. 🍇💍😂

They were immediately on board with my slightly improvised vineyard artistry… and judging by his “oh woooow” when I showed them the photo, I’d say the grapes understood the assignment.

Photo successfully created—and yes, I made very sure that precious new ring was safely back where it belonged afterwards. 😂

And honestly, this is what I love about photographing surprise proposals: the big moment may be carefully planned, but afterwards we get to relax, explore, laugh and create little details that make the gallery completely theirs.

Mon plus jeune modèle avait tout juste 6 semaines… et clairement, il avait déjà son propre rythme de travail. 😍

Cette séance était un peu différente de celles que je photographie habituellement. Pas de grande aventure ni de kilomètres à parcourir — simplement une maman, son tout petit garçon, et un moment pour ralentir au cœur de la nature.

Parce qu’à cet âge-là, tout change tellement vite. Les petits doigts, sa façon de se blottir contre toi, ses expressions minuscules, ce petit corps qui tient encore presque entièrement dans tes bras… Sur le moment, tu te dis que tu t’en souviendras toujours. Mais entre les nuits trop courtes, les journées qui se mélangent et bébé qui grandit à une vitesse franchement pas très polie 😅, certains détails commencent doucement à s’effacer.

Et c’est exactement pour cela que ces photos comptent.

Pas pour créer quelque chose de parfaitement posé, mais pour garder une trace de cette saison si douce, si intense et tellement éphémère. Des images qui deviendront encore plus précieuses à mesure que ton bébé grandira. 🤍

Si tu rêves d’une séance maternité, nouveau-né ou maman-bébé en pleine nature autour de Montreux, sur la Riviera vaudoise ou en Valais, n’attends pas forcément « le bon moment »… parce que ces toutes petites semaines, elles, n’attendent personne.

Two days of hiking. A night in a mountain hut. Tired legs, ridiculous views… and a group of ibexes casually appearing at sunset and baby marmots as though I had arranged the whole thing. ✨

This particular adventure was a two-day hike in the Swiss Alps—and yes, it was every bit as magical, sweaty and wildly beautiful as it looks.

But before the words “bespoke adventure” have you panic-buying hiking boots and training for an alpine expedition… let me explain. 😂

A bespoke adventure photography experience doesn’t automatically mean hiking for two days or carrying your life on your back.

It simply means creating an experience in Switzerland that is shaped around you.

That could be a couple strolling through the mountains with views of the Matterhorn. A family spending a few relaxed hours exploring Grindelwald. A gentle walk to a peaceful alpine viewpoint. A full day discovering different landscapes. Or yes… a multi-day hiking adventure with mountain huts, sunrise coffees and slightly questionable hair by day two.

There is no standard route, because there is no standard version of adventure.

For some people, adventure means reaching a remote summit. For others, it means slowing down somewhere beautiful, following an easy trail and giving the children enough time to inspect every cow along the way. Both count. 🐄

What makes it special is choosing an experience that genuinely feels like you—and, whenever possible, stepping beyond the busiest tourist stops to find the quieter side of the Swiss Alps.

The places where you can hear the wind instead of a queue of tour buses. Where you have room to wander, laugh and actually take everything in. Where your photographs become more than proof that you visited somewhere beautiful—they bring back what it felt like to be there.

The big landscapes, yes. But also the walking, the laughter, the windswept hair, the tiny details and all the wonderfully imperfect moments in between.

Not simply a photoshoot with a mountain in the background.

Some families arrive in front of my camera and within approximately 3 minutes I already know I’m going to spend half the session laughing. 😂

This was one of those families.

They were visiting Switzerland from South Africa and wanted something pretty simple: beautiful family photos to remember their time in Montreux.

And then they showed up with THIS energy. 🤣❤️

Six very different personalities, four kids ranging from little to very-much-not-little-anymore, lots of teasing, cuddles, spontaneous moments and so. much. laughter.

We spent the evening exploring a beautiful corner of the Swiss Riviera, with Lac Léman and the mountains around us, but honestly? As gorgeous as the Swiss scenery was, my favourite part of this family photoshoot wasn't the backdrop.

It was them.

The way they interacted. The way they made each other laugh. The tiny moments between the "actual" photos that somehow became some of my favourites.

Because yes, come to Switzerland for the mountains, the lake, the ridiculously pretty views and an unreasonable amount of chocolate...

…but make sure you take home memories of the people you experienced it all with. ❤️

Apparently, today is World Photography Day… which felt like a pretty good excuse to pop back onto your feed and say heeeeey, I’m Maaike. 👋🏻

I’m a half-Swiss, half-Dutch photographer based near Montreux, an adventure lover, a former event planner and someone who will get unnecessarily excited when the mountains, the light and the weather all decide to cooperate at the same time. It doesn’t happen often. 😂

But photography has never only been about creating beautiful images for me.

It’s about holding on to how life felt.

The nervous excitement before someone asks the biggest question of their life. The uncontrollable laughter halfway through a family photo. The way two people naturally reach for each other when they think I’m not photographing them. The wind, the muddy shoes, the happy chaos and all those tiny moments we don’t realise we’ll miss one day.

That’s why I don’t need you to know how to pose or feel completely comfortable in front of a camera. I’m not looking for perfect. I’m looking for you—and I’ll guide you through the rest.

Because years from now, I don’t just want your photographs to show you what happened.

I want them to bring you back to the people, the place and the feeling of being right there. 🤍

POV: I look calm and professional on the outside… but inside, it’s basically:

“Is he about to propose?”
“Oh shoot, I hope that’s sharp.”
“Why is the sun suddenly brighter than my entire future?”
“Don’t miss the reaction. DON’T MISS THE REACTION.” 😅

Surprise proposal photography is a very glamorous mix of careful planning, pretending I’m absolutely not waiting for you, adapting to whatever the light decides to do… and quietly panicking until I see that everything is beautifully in focus. 😂

But honestly? This is exactly why I love photographing surprise proposals in Switzerland. The nerves, the anticipation, that split second when they realise what’s happening—and then all the happy, beautifully chaotic emotions afterwards. Yesterday’s proposal had all of it. 🥹💍

Future proposers: I promise you’ll only see the calm and professional version of me on the day. The inner monologue stays safely inside my head… most of the time. 😂

Can we just appreciate the fact that DaKeyah came to Switzerland with a VISION?! 😊🤩✨

She had the dress.
She had the ideas.
She knew she wanted mountains.
She wanted glamour.
And most importantly: she wanted photos that felt completely different from the usual vacation snapshots.

My kind of woman. 😂

So we took her vision up into the mountains above Montreux and let Switzerland provide the backdrop: dramatic peaks, alpine meadows, little chalets, cows casually photobombing in the distance (as they should 🇨🇭😂), and that gorgeous summer evening light.

And THIS is something I really want people to know about booking a portrait session with me:

You don't need to fit into some predetermined idea of what a "Swiss Alps photoshoot" is supposed to look like.

You don't need hiking boots if hiking isn't your thing.

You don't need neutral outfits because Instagram told you they'll photograph well.

And you definitely don't need to suddenly become an outdoorsy mountain person just because we're heading into the Alps. 😄

Bring you.

The fabulous dress you couldn't resist packing.
The slightly-extra idea.
The outfit taking up half your suitcase.
The vision you've been secretly imagining since you booked the flight.

My job is to take all of that and find the Switzerland backdrop that makes it come alive. ❤️

Because yes, we'll make beautiful photos.

But they should still feel like you were actually there — not like you were dropped into somebody else's Pinterest board.

This is your sign to celebrate your love. 🔥

Not only the engagements, weddings and big round-number anniversaries. The ordinary, slightly chaotic, still-making-each-other-laugh-after-all-these-years kind of love deserves to be photographed too.

These two celebrated their anniversary with a sunset portrait session here in the Swiss Riviera—and apparently, the sky understood the assignment. It went from golden to full-on fire while they laughed, cuddled and generally behaved like two people having far too much fun to be posing for photographs. Exactly how I like it. 😂

Because a couples photoshoot doesn’t need to feel stiff, overly romantic or like you’ve suddenly been recruited for a perfume advertisement. We’ll walk, chat, laugh and make a little adventure out of it while I capture the two of you as you actually are together.

So whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, visiting Lake Geneva, or simply realised that your camera roll contains 4,762 photos but approximately three decent ones of you together… perhaps this really is your sign. ✨

Beautiful photos? Obviously. But that’s the bare minimum. 😜

When you book me for a photoshoot in Switzerland, you’re not simply hiring someone to turn up with a camera and place you in front of a pretty mountain.

You’re booking someone who will obsess over the light, scout the right location, think about the crowds, watch the weather, prepare a backup plan… and then spend the actual session making sure it doesn’t feel like an overly planned photoshoot at all. 😂

Because my goal isn’t to make you perform for the camera.

It’s to help you relax. To gently guide you without twisting you into stiff poses. To get you moving, laughing and momentarily forgetting what on earth you’re supposed to do with your hands.

I want you to remember the wind, the views, the ridiculous questions, the unexpected moments and how the whole experience felt—not just the photographs you received afterwards.

I’m probably not the right photographer for everyone, and honestly? That’s perfectly okay.

But if you want something natural, personal, thoughtfully planned and perhaps a little adventurous—whether it’s a solo portrait session, a family adventure, a couple’s photoshoot or a surprise proposal in Switzerland—we might just be each other’s kind of people. 🏔️
