I have been SO unmotivated lately. There, I said it. š
Between motherhood, weddings, editing family sessions⦠I gotta think about social media too?!
Sometimes I wish we as photographers could just post our work in one place and be seen for what we ACTUALLY do, instead of how well we show up on social media. Because honestly⦠itās exhausting.
Biased opinion, but I know Iām good at what I do. I built this business from the ground up with very few followers and barely ever posting.
And now Iām constantly questioning myself.
Are my clients happy?
Am I doing enough?
Is my work showing the way it should?
Word of mouth only goes so far, and as a pretty private person, constantly feeling like I need to post myself is hard.
Do couples actually want to know what Iām doing every day? Because most days itās messy hair buns, cooking dinner, editing in my pajamas and trying to keep everyone alive. š
Iām not posting this looking for sympathy. If you know me, you know thatās not really my style.
But sometimes I genuinely daydream about going back to a stable job. Go to work. Go home. Clock out. DONE.
Because when you own a business, your work brain never really turns off.
And I think some of the things that make us business owners crumble are:
⢠Keeping up with the posts
⢠Posting at the ārightā time (whatever that even means)
⢠Working weekends because apparently my 33yr old body has decided doubles are no longer an option š
šµ
⢠Spending hours and hours and HOURS editing alone in the dark⦠aka the romanticized editing cave
⢠Feeling like I need to dance on camera or change my editing style to fit whatever trend is happening this week
⢠And for the love of God⦠DONāT GET ME STARTED ON TAXES. š
Anyway, if you made it this farā¦
I still genuinely love what I do.
But photography is not the easy, flexible, glamorous little job people sometimes think it is. There is SO much that happens behind the scenes that nobody sees.
And honestly, I think thatās a big part of why Iāve started limiting the number of weddings I take each year.
Not because I love it any less.
But because I want to actually love my life while Iām living it, too. š¤
