Cookem Daisey's Catering and Events aka Glenna will be retiring from most of her catering services.

After 10 years of amazing ups and some crazy downward motions (ie. the pandemic rebuild etc) other more easier on the mind and body works are thankfully keeping me busy enough to do so.

I have been selling food since my boys were small. It started soccer tourneys to small catering gigs for friends and workmates. I eventually left my casino career to follow my dream of feeding people.

For ten years this has been my main form of income. And it has been a way for me to raise my family and give some income boosts to my family and children.

I will continue making Bannock Dreams( for schools, community events) and maybe the odd soup order or luncheon for family and friends.

However, my main focus will now be on my works with multiple school divisions and in learning about our traditional foods and medicines.

I have one more big booking in September after that I shall be done.

Feels good to say it, and without any sadness.

Go Drink your conifers

I'm so tired of James Lind and his lemons getting all the credit for curing scurvy. In the winter of 1536, Jacques Cartier's crew was driving from a disease he called "Scorbut"(scurvy). At Stadaconna, present day Quebec City, Cartier's crew was cured from scurvy by ascorbic acid (vitamin C) obtained as a tea from the Haudenosaunee. It was prepared by boiling leaves and bark from an evergreen tree. HE DOCUMENTED THIS. White cedar (like other conifers) is incredibly high in vitamin c and super easy to obtain.
And yes, obviously Native folks already understood the cure for scurvy, but even other non-Native folks understood that cedar cures scurvy OVER 200 YEARS BEFORE JAMES LIND. Also, cedar tea is way way easier to pack than citrus fruit lol 😂
Alright, rant over. Go drink your conifers, don't get scurvy.
