JUST ANNOUNCED => Levitation Room / David Spade & The Noise Complaints at Meteor Sept 17th / $20 / 8pm doors

In Los Angeles, where the weight and pressure of the city’s fast paced culture can make your legs feel like pillars, emerges psychedelic quartet, Levitation Room, to break the bonds of gravity with their cosmic wall of sound and thought provoking lyrics. “Just as their name suggests, Levitation Room’s music instills the listeners ears with a light feeling of floating. The dreamy guitar and Lo-Fi projections of psychedelic rock and garage are reminiscent of a deep 1960’s era, but still grounded in an alternative dreamgaze flavor that permeates modern indie music today.” - OC Weekly. Their decidedly hallucinogenic songs whisper and hum the same gentle refrain of their summer of love influences, conjuring up the cognitive imagery of sunny days at the park, spent with friends in a euphoric haze along with lyrical and sonic meditations on life, love, society and self-awareness.

In tradition, and much like the bands and musical troubadours that inspired them, Levitation Room started out with late night jam sessions in a dimly lit garage between fellow musicians and long time friends, Julian Porte and Gabriel Fernandez. Julian, a dedicated street musician who felt he needed a broader platform, found chemistry with Gabriel, who he knew as a guitar player in various teenage punk and garage bands around town. Coming together in 2012, they bonded over a shared love of British Invasion groups (The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones) and 1960’s psychedelic outfits like The Grateful Dead, Electric Prunes, The Pretty Things and began drafting their earliest tunes. It wasn’t until the late summer of 2012, that the band came to fruition when they found a rhythm section in two individuals with almost identical names; drummer, Johnathan Martin, and bassist, Jonathathan Martin. The four began writing songs, playing gigs and recording music out of a quaint studio in East LA.

After the release of their self recorded demo “Levitation Room Vol. 1”, they quickly began gaining momentum and performing at local music venues throughout Southern California. 2015 saw the release of their first official debut EP “Minds Of Our Own” released on Burger Records. Later in the spring of 2016, they released their first full length album, “Ethos”, with the help of their friend and new keyboardist, Glenn Brigman, who recorded and helped produce the record. Since 2014, Levitation Room has participated in various shows, tours and music festivals across the US and Europe and continues to see the growth in listeners and followers on YouTube, Soundcloud and Spotify (with nearly 2 million plays on their song “Friends”). With the promise of a potentially bright future, Levitation Room has begun to mix and finalize their second album that they hope will display their process of maturity in sound and song-writing, exploring new territories of influence in music and instrumentation, combining folk, jazz, raga, soul, pop and of course… psychedelia. Stay tuned!

"A disc of pure, impalpable beauty, weightless notes and melodies that pierce our hearts.... And the young woman, prey to a vagueness in the soul that she sublimates in a handful of magical songs, to offer us a twilight album, somewhere between Gillian Welch and Laura Veir."

“One night last summer, Allegra Krieger woke up to an apartment full of smoke. Unable to unlock the fire escape, she stumbled out of her fifth-floor walk-up unit in New York’s Chinatown and into an even smokier stairwell. “I just took a deep breath and ran down the stairs, and it got thicker and thicker, to the point where you can’t see,” recalls the singer-songwriter, 28. “So I fell, and then a fireman found me and took me out…. Then you’re outside watching it happen. You’re half-asleep, panicked, and then you’re on the other side of it.”

A few days later — unharmed but shaken, and living in a hotel room provided by the city — Krieger wrote a stark, haunting song called “One or the Other.” “Nancy from the second floor died/On her bed with an open door,” she sings over moody guitar chords. “She tried to get out, but must have turned around/Couldn’t fight that light anymore.” The song builds up to a searching refrain: “What do you know about living?/What do you know about dying?” - Rolling Stone

Allegra Krieger is touring with Foxwarren but will be taking a break from that to play Meteor with Crissi Cochrane Sept 15th.

JUST ANNOUNCED => James Blonde / Two Years Apart at Meteor Nov 6th / $15 / 8pm doors

“So which one of you is James Blonde?”, we get this question all the time. The answer is quite simple: ALL THREE of us! Phil, Steph & Neil comprise the entity that is James Blonde. The Band is described by its following as a sound that resonates through generations. Their message gives light to the struggle, the celebration, the human condition, disenchantment and obsession, to a sometimes dark but always dance-worthy beat. Taking influence from bands such as Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Billy Talent & MGMT, James Blonde does a perfect job at taking its listeners on an emotional journey through the subtle weaving of confessional songwriting, High-octane rock guitar, electric pop groove and funky bass, as wellas some old-fashioned soul with insanely precise musicianship.

Ada Lea put out a new album “when I paint my masterpiece” just over a week ago. Check out what Pitchfork has to say…”The new album feels lighter on its feet; many songs seem to float by, light sketches undergirded by minimal instrumentation. On “midnight magic,” Levy sings in close-tracked harmonies as plodding piano chords amble beneath her; at just under two minutes, “it isn’t enough” forgoes a formal verse-chorus structure, instead offering a slow-burning melody over a simple brush of guitar and percussion.

Much of the record was recorded in a single room with a small band, live and loose in rural Ontario. That intimacy translates into some transcendent moments, as when a gently distorted guitar riff wonderfully steals the spotlight partway through “something in the wind,” or in the masterful control of tension on “down under the van horne overpass.” Levy can be quite funny, too—as on “bob dylan’s 115th haircut,” an artistic hype-up where she reminds herself that she’s capable of things even the famed voice of a generation isn’t. “Bob Dylan wouldn’t have thought of this song,” she muses dryly, “A couple reasons: He wasn’t here, for one.” Artistic success, Levy implies, isn’t a matter of comparison but of honoring your individual circumstances. Each time you commit to the creative process, you may as well be painting your masterpiece.” - Pitchfork

Georgia Harmer unveils her new album Eye of the Storm, an empathetic exchange
between past and future selves, and a deep breath of life into the veins of relationships over time. Where Harmer’s 2022 debut, Stay In Touch, chronicled introspection and growth, the heart of Eye of the Storm lies in the deeper matter of self-realization and understanding. It seeks to answer questions of what to carry, what to leave behind, and what to follow forward.
In addition to the album’s release, Harmer is also sharing a video for the album track “Slow Down” – a song written when she was “yearning for a moment of stillness to really understandand experience the present,” Georgia says.
“I was sort of astral-projecting myself into the perspective of my relatives over time, when they were the age I am now, experiencing time flying by just as rapidly. It’s about the realization that everyone feels the same way about time, as if they’ve been running to catch up with its pace, only to blink and find themselves where they
are now, over and over again.”

NEXT MONDAY

“Formed on the heels of the 2000s indie rock scene, the band was started by college dropout, Pete Burton and former gas station clerk, Luke Sheafer in 2009.

The duo shared a mutual affinity for the music of the aughts. Bands like The Strokes, Modest Mouse, The White Stripes and Franz Ferdinand, would serve as the catalyst to the danceable, guitar-driven rock that Me Like Bees would become known for”
