I do a “Top Ten Dahlias” reel every year, but you guys have no idea how incredibly hard it is for me to pick only ten dahlias out of the hundred plus that I grow every year! Some honourable mentions include Czarny Charakter, Brennon, Chateau de la Bourdaisiere, and Kyokujitsu-shoten.

Why does this dahlia look so different from the varieties I usually post?? 🤔
Well, this one was bred in Japan! 🇯🇵 Unfortunately, I have no idea who to correctly pronounce the name Kyokujitsu-shoten, so I usually called it Shoten this summer for the sake of every poor soul that knew the correct pronunciation.
It is very unique to say the least! The form of this bloom is somewhere between an informal decorative and a waterlily. Personally, I adore unique blooms so I fell in love with it!
What do you think of Japanese bred dahlias? Should I track more down?? 😁

It’s day ten, which means this is my final day for posting my earliest and best bloomers!
Levi’s Sunfire is a must grow in my humble opinion. This dahlia has incredible stems, tons of vigour, and is always blooming.
Levi Tremblay, who hybridizes Levi’s dahlias in Minnesota, has bred some of my absolute favourites! The man just knows what’s up when it comes to early blooming dahlias which is a must-have for my short season. Three of his dahlias made it into my top ten with this challenge so that alone speaks volumes! If you have the chance, definitely try growing some of his beautiful dahlias!

Day nine of my earliest and most floriferous dahlias!
Meet Lee’s Mauva Guava! I had wanted this one for awhile, and it did not disappoint. It blooms early with good stems, is constantly in bloom, and is such a pretty colour.
I don’t think Lee’s Mauva Guava will be in my 2027 sale, but I will most definitely be making cuttings of it in late winter.

Day eight of this challenge goes to Klara Zak!
This was one of my very first dahlias to bloom this season, and it never really took a break! I could always count on finding some Klara Zak blooms in the field. The stems are a bit stubby, but I still enjoyed seeing it.
This dahlia also always reminded me of my grandma, whose name was Klara before she immigrated to the USA and had it changed to Clara.

How are we already on day seven??
Please let me introduce to you Formby Quest! People have already been asking me if this one will be in my sale, and as long as everything stores well, it should be! This Australian bred dahlia has lovely stems, blooms a lot, and is pretty early as well! It is definitely an Aussie that’s worth growing in my opinion!

Day six of my earliest and best blooming dahlias goes to Levi’s Blue Smoke!
This thing produces tubers like its life depends on it…. Maybe because it does. 😂 You all know I love kicking dahlia varieties to the curb that don’t cooperate!
Levi’s Blue Smoke is an abundant bloomer, insane tuber maker, and early! The thing cannot be killed!
This one should definitely be in my spring tuber sale!

You all know I love this one, but I’m posting it for day five anyway!
Levi’s Confessor hardly needs an introduction; it’s an early bloomer, so extremely pretty, and makes me lots of cute tubers!
I can’t get enough of this lovely variety!

Day four of my earliest and more floriferous dahlias goes to Château de la Bourdaisière.
This dahlia is one of my earliest, has beautiful stems, and blooms all season long! It is one of the most reliable if I absolutely need some blooms because it just keeps pumping them out all season long.
The only downside? Château is a terrible tuber maker! Perhaps that’s why you have never seen me sell it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ However, all of the other positive traits keep me growing it every single year!

Day 3 of which dahlias I grow that are the earliest and most prolific!
Sandia Bliss is featured today! I love this dahlia because it is so so fluffy. It’s also early and blooms generously. I love me some Sandia Bliss dahlias!
