The Canadian Arts Coalition is calling on Canadians who care about Arts and Culture in their communities to take part in their national letter-writing campaign.

The Coalition is raising the alarm that the federal government may move away from its own commitments to strengthen Canadian culture at a time when it is needed most, and could potentially cut primary funding mechanisms even further.

Across the country, thousands of individual artists and cultural organizations rely on support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Department of Canadian Heritage. These investments have a direct impact on local economies, tourism, health and well-being, and the sense of belonging and shared identity that shapes our nation.

Here in the Outaouais, where creative activity and artistic output play a major role in the regional economy, cuts to this sector would have a very real impact on communities on top of everything else.

The Coalition’s letter campaign makes it quick and easy to take action: spend as little as 20 seconds to add your voice, or take a few minutes to share your story.

✨ Meet the Artist: Vortex's Stella Mandrak-Pagani ✨

(French to follow / version française plus bas)

We’re excited to welcome Stella Mandrak-Pagani of Vortex Studio to the final weekend of Art in the Park! Stella will be bringing one of Vortex Studio’s most popular kids’ crafts: Clothespin Fairies & Fairy Doors!

🎨 Stella is a graduate of OCAD University in Toronto, Ontario, earning a BFA double major in Photography and Drawing & Painting in 2010, and also holds a certificate in Graphic Design from George Brown College. She has participated in multiple group and solo shows throughout her art career, and her mixed-media work often explores travel, personal and found objects, and the evolution of character and memory. Her paintings incorporate text, photo, collage, and paint, inviting viewers to get lost in a dream-like sequence of memories.

For the past eight years, Stella has been teaching adults and children to create unique works of art. In her own words: “I am merely a facilitator, offering guidance and tools. Everyone will learn at their own pace and bring their own journey and stories into their creations. I am there to help guide you in the best way to depict those ideas. Your hands are your tools and they take time to strengthen.”

Whether making art or collecting it, Stella believes the experience is personal — art is meant to challenge and make you feel deeply, no matter the emotion it evokes.

Come meet Stella this Saturday at Parc Roquebrune (Turntable Park) to create a magical craft to bring home to your garden. Workshop begins at noon, spaces are limited.

Music by Jacob River Milnes starts at 2pm.

✨ Rencontrez l’artiste : Stella Mandrak-Pagani ✨
