Laurie has been singing since she could walk. Her first love was Annie and theatre when she was a little girl. She went on to classical voice training when she was 14 and then opera training when she was 22. Laurie also plays various instruments and has had extensive piano training. She completed Grade 10 conservatory in piano and also plays the flute.
Laurie grew up in a very musical family. Many of her influences started right at home. Her mother played the accordion and the piano. Her grandmother was on the radio as a vocalist back in the day, as well as playing leading roles in the operatic scene in Victoria and the mainland. Laurie is lucky to also be surrounded by many cousins, aunts and uncles who are not only accomplished musicians, but have been in the recording industry as well.
Laurie’s vocal performances have been varied over the last 35 years. From classical stage singing to Butchart Gardens carol singing, theatre performances, weddings , retirement parties, non profit events, princess character singing to singing telegrams. She has done it all.
Laurie has a soft spot for Disney music. Princess Parties started as a party for a friend.It has grown to more birthday parties, community events such as school fairs and most recently into pre-schools and daycares as special events. Laurie is thrilled to perform and loves the interaction with the community.
Alongside her character singing business, Laurie also takes her music programming into daycare facilities. She works evenings as a vocal coach and takes on various performance requests for functions in Victoria.
