We are trying to raise a new flock of ducks again!

Why Use Ducks for Pest Control?
Voracious Appetites: Ducks eagerly devour common garden pests like mosquitoes, damaging beetles, and grasshoppers. They are especially famous for hunting slugs, which can decimate my flower patches or vegetable garden.
No Plant Scratching: Unlike chickens, ducks have webbed feet and lack sharp spurs, meaning they rarely scratch up the soil or damage young seedlings.
Fertilization: Their droppings are nutrient-rich and act as an excellent organic plant food.
Sustainable Farming: Globally—from Asian rice paddies to South African vineyards—ducks are “employed” by the thousands to replace chemical pesticides and artificial fertilizers.
And as an organically flower grower, that’s exactly what I want.
Welcome to the farm ducks. And THANK YOU to the one who offered me the ducks! You are an angel.

Around 600 Sunflowers went in the ground today. 8 different varieties. 2 white varieties, red and plum coloured ones, and yellow with a dark centre and yellow with a yellow centre. Then there are two filler Sunflowers. They don’t open. So many varieties.

Today 300 Gladiolus Kio were planted. New bed prepared and got 6 beds ready for our first planting of Sunflowers.

The Gladiolus planted 4 weeks ago is doing great and is looking very healthy!
And another exciting thing is that the first Dahlias are popping through the soil!! So awesome to have 8 varieties of Dahlias again after a failed experiment.

The season of the blossoms is changing.
We go from Magnolias straight into Lilacs.
I planted these Lilacs from suckers from a shrub out of my daughter’s garden. There are 14 of them and 10 are blooming this year. Last year we had the first one. And I hope they will all bloom next year. It took 4 years to get them in bloom.
I also have 2 Lilac “Beauty of Moscow. So gorgeous.

Frost warning once again.
Quickly went out to cover everything. All the rows with our cold hardy annuals and the tables with the first 3 successions of Sunflowers.
The idea of loosing everything….. thankful I checked the weather before heading to bed!

It’s so nice to see a clean vegetable garden. And we harvested tons of Asparagus and Rhubarb. Garlic is doing great and so do the new herbs.
But there’s still lots to do.
Broccoli, Cauliflower, Red and Green Cabbage are waiting to go in the ground and so are the Tomatoes.
Glad we still have a few Saturdays to do that.
Oh… and lots of Basil coming.

Yup, we grow more than flowers.

I planted Strawberries in between the Asparagus and I’m confident that we will have Strawberries this year!
I love to use all the space in the garden.
