For the private opening dinner celebrating That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, The Bloomerie created a sculptural tablescape inspired by the landscapes of Emily Carr.
This design was not simply a centrepiece — it was a landscape in motion.
Concept: A River Flowing Through the Forest
The central idea was a river floating through the length of the table, surrounded by the forests of British Columbia.
The floral composition ran continuously from end to end, creating the feeling of water moving gently through dense greenery. At the head of the table, the design rose into a vertical botanical installation, cascading down over deep navy fabric — visually representing the river spilling into the forest floor.
Design Elements
To express this concept, we layered:
White calla lilies rising like slender tree trunks
Deep blue and indigo anthuriums reflecting the depth of water
Soft blush hydrangea adding painterly texture
Delicate blue-toned florals woven throughout
Rich ferns and mixed West Coast greenery forming the surrounding forest
Moss grounding the base like the damp BC woodland floor
Tall navy taper candles were placed within the composition, their warm glow reflecting like light dancing on water at dusk.
Atmosphere in the Room
Set against the skyline views at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, the installation created contrast between the urban exterior and the immersive natural landscape on the table.
The result was dramatic yet organic — structured yet wild.
An interpretation of British Columbia’s forests and waterways, brought indoors for an intimate evening of art, culture, and conversation.
We are honoured to have translated the spirit of this exhibition into a living botanical experience.
If your next event deserves more than décor — let’s design a story.
