The Secret to the BEST Tamale Salsa: Charred Perfection!
Want a salsa that tastes like it came straight from Abuela’s kitchen? The trick is to dry-roast your ingredients until they are deeply toasted, bringing out an incredible, flavor. It’s easy, authentic, and a total game-changer for your tamales!
Ingredients:
• 6-7 Roma tomatoes
• Half red onion
• 3-5 Serrano or jalapeños chiles
• 4 garlic cloves
• 1 tbs kosher salt
• 1 cup water
Directions:
1. In a hot, dry pan, cook the tomatoes, onion, chiles, and garlic until their skins are blackened and they are very soft. This takes patience, but it’s worth it!
2. Add the charred ingredients to a blender along with the salt and water. Blend until you hit your desired consistency.
3. Pro Tip: The salsa tastes even better after it’s been allowed to cool down and the flavors have had a chance to marry.
