Portraying the 1960's for a Bollywood interpretation 💃🏻🕺🏻When designing these costumes I knew but they had to be accurate to the music and the period... and most importantly, dancers should be comfortable 😅! It was a challenge, an adventure and now a precious memory 💛

The intimacy and power of this piece brought the costumes to life ✨After conversations with choreographer .alemona, we came up with an idea of showing the body in a subtle but liberating way 🙏🏻 The connection of the costumes with the piece turned out to be amazing 💜

Posted • .alemona : PRARTHANA प्रार्थना (“Prayer” in Hindi) is a contemporary dance piece in reverent homage to the ancient practice of Kalaripayattu (the oldest martial art form in the world from Kerala, India).

Sincere gratitude to all who were with me through the journey of creating this piece ~ we look forward to sharing it with you! 🌙 Premieres tomorrow at monstrARTity]’s BMM festival, Sept. 10th 2021, 6pm EST🙏🏾

About: प्रार्थना reflects on the moment when mind and body become one, allowing us to give ourselves fully to our place of practice. The movements in this piece are inspired by the rituals a Kalaripayattu student traditionally partakes in, such as the oiling of the body, the cleaning of the Kalari (space), and paying respects to the warrior spirits, and to one's Gurus.

In the middle of a very busy summer, here’s a one of my past years’ creations: Victorian Medici Belt. Used during the 1860’s to late 1890’s, “the Medici belt was a wide belt that separated blouses and skirts. Belts were corset-like, and typically had lace up fronts or large buckles in the center”.

There are 2 interesting things about it’s construction that I want to share. First, the fabric used was from my grandma’s stash... dating around the 1980’s 🧐 Second, there was a lot of handwork involved, more than what I thought, and probably the most beautiful snaps I have ever sewn...

Transforming some old shoes 💜 to my accessories class at Fanshawe ✨
It was a challenge working with shoes! Thinking about how to create new shapes and how to cut the fabric in the right way✂️ Where should the darts and the seams go? How to glue the fabric without making any mistakes? How many pieces? Thankfully, our Professor was always there guiding me... first time working with shoes, and I loved it 🤓
