THE END OF A MATRIARCHY HAS RISEN✨

With the passing of my last grandparent, Margaret Audrey Bentham, and with the launch of my COHORT ONE on Monday, I can’t help but reflect on the legacy of my grandmothers have left. These women have played an integral role in my life, and since the birth of Geon Nativa ( when they were both alive), I knew the role of the matriarchy would be a key piece in grounding this school. And on the eve of sharing with the world COHORT ONE details, my grandmother gets her wings☺️. Divine timing.

Blessing be to you grandma! May you rest easy. You have given more than enough! You have left such an effect on all our lives. And now you stand with me as I embark on the greatest journey of my life. I am forever grateful for the life you lived 🕊️

As we gear up for another great season of installations and activations, I wanted to share some of the activations Geon Nativa did in 2024.

1. A private dinner + discussion called “SURMOUNT”
2. FERMATA day 1: ofearth and day 2: ofwater in partnership with the Bentway
5.Planetary OUDH installation and activation in partnership with Bcurrent Theater
7. Geon Nativa spoke at the CATR(Canadian Association for Theatre Research) where I shared my research in Cooking and Performance studies.
9. Contributed to an event called “MINDMATTERS”

LIVING LIBRARY

Have you ever considered that YOU are a living library of sacred technology? A walking story unfolding over and over again.

When you walk, you walk with thousands, carrying with you ‘intergenerational codes of memory’ in your cells and in your bones.

If you are new here, my name is Aisha Lesley Bentham, and I am the founder of Geon Nativa:Institute of Conjure.

My relationship with books feels more like I am a ‘caretaker of knowledge’. I feel responsible for the books, every single one of them and when they are in my presence, whether I have read it or not, I feel as though I already know the story. I can perceive the story, as though the book is telling me what I need to know.

I feel endless and forever when I’m around books. The power that books manifest are a part of their charm😌

And so one day, I will have a library that you all may come and visit, but until then, I’ve created a digital catalogue on Pinterest of the books you may find in my library.

COHORT ONE representative of the 🫒

In each cohort, I work with a species, usually pertaining to the natural world, that is the embodied in the essence of each student that will come through GNIC (virtual) doors.

I am so excited to be working with the olive as we call in COHORT ONE!

I am calling forth:
the benders,
the water bearers,
the timekeepers,
the ancients,
the luminaries
the harmonics,
the weavers,
the ocular web
and all those to be remembered.
