“Home is where the eyes find their coolness.”
My mother often said to me, “Tu bohot door jaa rahi hai.” (“You’re going too far.”)
But then she would soften and say in Urdu:
“Ja jeha tuja aankhon ki thandak milein.”
“Go wherever your eyes find their coolness.”
She lived her whole life surrounded by lush fields, the sounds of prayer, and the scent of jasmine. I moved across continents—from that familiar warmth to the quiet snows of Canada. And yet, her words follow me, gently anchoring me in every green that I paint.
This piece, The Emerald Carpet, reminds me of that—of her, of home.
The landscapes I carry are not just memories; they’re emotions I relive with every stroke.
To me, home isn’t a fixed place, but a feeling.
A resting point for the eyes, a soft sigh of the heart. This is what this painting is—it feels like home.
Thank you for this beautiful initiative. Makes you think and ponder. touches many hearts 💕
