Ten weeks of procurement training on top of everything else.

Because being a Certified Black Business Enterprise is not just a credential.

It is the formal infrastructure to be considered for the rooms and the contracts where the best work happens.

As of April 1st, Debonair Corporate Events is officially recognized by the BEBC Society, Canada's national certifying body for Black-owned businesses.

We always delivered at the level those rooms require.

Now it is on paper.

Being in rooms where real conversations are happening is what moves this industry forward.

Great to see Dwayne Rutherford, DES on stage at Canadian Special Events LIVE EventFest, speaking on a perspective that doesn’t get talked about enough, the value behind the thinking, strategy, and decision-making that shape successful events long before they happen.

The work clients see is only one part of the process. The conversations, guidance, and direction behind the scenes are often what create the strongest outcomes.

These are the discussions that continue pushing the industry forward and helping redefine what true partnership looks like in events.

Proud to be part of an industry that continues to evolve through shared insight and experience.

The event industry has a money problem.
Not a lack of it. A conversation about it.
We talk about design. We talk about experience. We talk about strategy.
But when it comes to pricing, profit, and what financial power actually looks like for an event professional, the room gets quiet.
That changes on April 28th.
I will be on the stage at Canadian Special Events LIVE EventFest speaking on Money, Power and the Event Professional. A session designed to be exactly what the title says. Candid. Direct. Practical.
We are going to talk about margins. Models. Mindset. And what it actually takes to build a business in this industry that pays you like a professional.
If you are attending CSE Live this year, come find me in that room at 9:55 AM.
If you are not registered yet, the link is in my bio.
See you there.

Nobody remembers the agenda.
They remember the food.
Every time.
The organizations that understand this stop treating F&B as a line item and start treating it as a brand decision.
We design around that moment.

Most companies think they are buying logistics.
Venue. Catering. Someone to make sure the AV works.
If that is what you believe you are buying, that is exactly what you will get.
The clients I work with who see the strongest outcomes understand something different.
They are not hiring a vendor.
They are buying a decision-making partner.
Someone who pushes back when the brief is wrong.
Who asks the question behind the question.
Who protects their reputation before a single guest walks through the door.
Most of those decisions? They will never know were made.
That is the difference between leaving your own event feeling proud versus leaving with that quiet feeling that something was slightly off but you cannot name it.
Not ex*****on.
Partnership.

Every week a decision does not get made, something else gets decided for you.
The venue goes to someone else.
The date disappears.
The vendor who knows how to execute at a high level commits to another client.
And your team, the people who were waiting to feel like they matter to this organization?
They notice.
They always notice.
Uncertainty is real right now. I am not dismissing that.
But the organizations that come out of this period with culture intact are not the ones who waited for perfect conditions.
They are the ones who gathered anyway.
The question is not whether the timing is right.
The question is what it costs you to keep waiting.

Finalist.

Best Corporate Event Under $250K.

Canadian Event Awards 2026.

I did not see this coming. But when I sat with it, I realized it was never really about the award.

It was about every client who handed us their reputation and trusted us to protect it. Every team member who showed up before the room filled and stayed until it was over. Every decision made behind the scenes that nobody ever saw.

This recognition belongs to all of them.

To my fellow finalists in this category, the standard of work being celebrated here is a reflection of what this industry is capable of at its best. Proud to be recognized alongside you.

The work speaks. It always does.

A well-designed leadership offsite does not just give people a break from the office. It rebuilds trust. It realigns culture. It creates the kind of shared context that no memo, no all-hands, and no Slack message can replicate.

A year-end celebration designed with intention does not just say thank you. It says: we thought about you before you walked through the door.

The organizations getting the most from their events are asking better questions before the planning begins.

Not: what should the theme be?
But: what do we need people to feel when they leave?

That distinction is the difference between an event that fills a room and one that shifts something inside an organization.

If you are responsible for culture, people, or belonging in your organization, this is a conversation I would genuinely enjoy having. DM me to connect. 🀝

You are only as good as the people you trust.

Great events happen when the right people come together. But "together" doesn't just mean being in the same room. It means clear communication and shared standards.

When you see me coordinating with the catering and floor staff in this clip, we are aligning on the "Why" behind the "What." When the vendor understands the vision, they can make real-time decisions that protect the guest experience without needing to ask you every five minutes.

The Lesson: Spend your prep time building rapport and clarity with your vendors. It buys you peace of mind during the main event. 🎬

Ordinary never made anyone stop and stare. ✨

This is what happens when planning meets purpose and design meets intention. Every element you see was placed with a reason. Nothing is accidental. Nothing is rushed.

At Debonair, we don't just dress a room. We craft an experience that your guests will carry with them long after the night is over.

This is the standard we hold ourselves to, every event, every client, every time.

If your next event deserves this level of attention, you know where to find us. πŸ”— Link in bio.
