We've recently shifted our focus here at Tealight Films away from wedding films, but when our dear friends Antonella and Andrew told us that they were getting married, we couldn't resist the opportunity to capture their day! As it turned out, their wedding was so full of wonderful moments -- and the themes of togetherness and community resounded so frequently throughout their day -- that not only were we reminded of why we love doing this kind of work, but also of something grander that the very best wedding films aspire to share.

Congrats Ant and Andrew, and thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!

Last summer, my grandmother flew in from Manila to stay at my parent's house in the Toronto area for two months. While she was staying with us, she agreed to participate in an on-camera interview and some portrait-style shots -- lucky for us, because capturing and sharing her story is so important.

Note on the title of this video: in Tagalog, "Nanay" means mother, and this is what everyone in the family has always called my grandmother. Also, on a more topical note, it's interesting to see the footage of the Toronto Islands, which remain largely closed to the public this summer due to high water levels.

Shot on the Sony A7s, mostly with the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 (adapted with Metabones Speed Booster IV).

Music: Blake Ewing - Gravity, and Blake Ewing - You + Me.

A little video I made of our family's trip out east to Nova Scotia in September. Narrated by my son Kai.

This trip (and video) wouldn't have been the same if we hadn't stayed at the following Airbnb accommodation in Cheticamp, which was beautiful and wondrous in its own right: airbnb.ca/users/show/5962 -- Harper's an amazing host, too!

We love it when weddings incorporate elements of a couple's story -- it lends a certain authenticity to the day, imbues meaning to the details. When Samantha and Jason told us that they would be getting married at Hotel Ocho, a hotel in downtown Toronto that displays work from local artists on its walls, we thought that this venue made perfect sense for them, as they first met at a social painting event in the city. There were so many other ways that Samantha and Jason were able to weave their story into the details of their wedding day: from the wonderful love letters they read aloud to each other at the ceremony, to the framed photograph of Jason's Up-themed proposal to Samantha, to the caketopper of Karl and Ellie dressed as Luke and Princess Leia (so meta!). For us, it was also a bonus that this all took place in the heart of downtown Toronto, and that we could shoot their wedding day portraits in colourful Graffiti Alley -- in a way, it seemed like a natural extension of the "painting event" theme!

Congratulations to Sam and Jason for tying the knot, and thank you for including us on your special day!

Hands down one of the most beautiful weddings that we've ever had the privilege of capturing took place on a recent Sunday in a converted barn in the rustic town of Waterdown. From the chandeliers hanging from the rafters to the produce cart filled with fresh fruits and vegetables at the entrance, every detail at Jackie and Lorne's wedding was exquisite and breathtaking. The forecast of showers did little to dampen the exuberance of this celebration; the love between these two is so deeply felt and genuine that watching them tie the knot reminds us of why we fell in love with capturing weddings in the first place.

Emerald and Steve met at a math camp one summer and hit it off so well that they eventually got bitten by the love bug and got married. With their guidance, we re-imagined their story and put together this short video for them to show at their wedding reception this past summer -- we're so excited to finally be able to share this project!

Thank you Emerald and Steve for being such troopers on our shoot days at Kelso Park, Humber Bay Park, and downtown Oakville! Steve, you get an extra special mention for helping portage our canoe down a formidable flight of stairs at Kelso -- who knew a canoe was so heavy? :)

Em and Steve asked us to capture their wedding day as well -- to have a look at their wedding trailer, click here: vimeo.com/99483244

When an officiant says something beautiful at a wedding ceremony, we love it because it does so much to set the scene and establish the tone for our films. At Marsha and Andre's ceremony at the Hazelton Manor, Andrew Jones did an amazing job of reminding everyone why we were there that day, and why Marsha and Andre's bond is so special. In his remarks after the processional, Andrew also expounded on how every union is a triumph of sorts, a victory against mitigating circumstances -- and it was when we heard him say this that we knew we had the opening for Marsha and Andre's trailer!

We had so much fun capturing the day for Marsha and Andre, who were so laid back and easy to work with on the day of their wedding! Beauty abounded that day: from the majesty of the trees at the Kortright Centre, to the candles and flower petals lining the aisle for their ceremony at the Hazelton Manor, to the tower of cupcakes at the reception. Congratulations Marsha and Andre, and thanks again for letting us be a part of your special day!

In many ways, Sarah and Josh's wedding was the type of wedding that we've always wanted to capture: a stunning destination ceremony venue (Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands area, just across the Canadian border in the States), a gorgeous and intimate reception venue, careful attention to detail by the couple (details galore!), a surprise pop-up band at the recessional (a la Love Actually), and to top it all off, heartfelt personal vows and touching speeches. Even the weather worked out: the morning forecast called for thunderstorms, so we all were pleasantly surprised when the rain didn't arrive until right at the very end of the portrait session! As for capturing the day, it also helped that Sarah and Josh are both in the film industry, so they knew exactly what we needed: from expertly implemented lighting at the reception (hello, hairlights!), to easy access to an audio feed throughout the day -- we sure felt spoiled at times!

We're so happy to finally be able to share their highlight film -- putting it together was a blast! Congrats Sarosh -- you are an amazing couple!

When Rawan and Mustafa asked us where we would suggest doing their portrait session, we immediately thought of Princess Point in Hamilton -- to us, there's something about the beautiful tree-lined shoreline there that inspires romance. So it was no surprise to us later when we visited the location with them that they would choose to exchange their personal vows right there by the lake, in a spot underneath a canopy of trees -- it was there, in the shade by the water, that Rawan and Mustafa shared with each other some of the most poignant vows we've heard yet!

There were so many other highlights from their day that we can remember: from their sweet gift exchange, to their beautiful rooftop First Look (one of the most emotional of the season!), to the pyrotechnics at Carmen's (best cake cutting ever!). Congratulations you two, and all the very best in the future!

Many people who get married discover that there's something deeply moving about the moment you first see your partner on your wedding day: something about how seeing him or her all decked out in wedding regalia is like a kind of blunt signal that the pageantry of the wedding ceremony--and all its attendant rituals--are soon to begin. For those of us who document weddings, this moment is sometimes captured in a session before the ceremony known as the First Look. Of the First Looks that we've been lucky enough to be a part of, few have been as emotional as the one we did with Anne and Ty the morning of their wedding, on the rooftop of the Sheraton on Queen Street. Referencing the emotion later in his speech at the reception, Ty tried to suggest that "something just got in his eye" but as experienced wedding filmmakers, we knew better!

From their emotional First Look at the Sheraton, to their portrait session at the Distillery District, ceremony and reception at Atlantis (love those personal vows!), Anne and Ty had an amazing day! Congrats to the two of you, and all the very best!

P. S. Thanks to the ladies from Renaissance Studios for bringing that awesome ampersand in -- we love those last two shots!

Amy and Mike tied the knot on a beautiful sunny day at Gracewood Estates, a gorgeous venue nestled in Niagara's wine country, an area of the province replete with vineyards and wide open fields -- the perfect setting, in our opinion, for a rustic wedding! Sunset on their wedding day was strikingly beautiful (the sky was awash in red and orange), so just before the sun dipped below the horizon we coaxed Amy and Mike to go out with us for an additional portrait session. We're so glad they agreed because this allowed us to capture some of our favourite shots from the day!

In the spirit of some recent summer blockbusters, we included here a short post-credits sequence featuring Amy's uber-romantic surprise ukulele performance for Mike right after their First Look -- so keep watching until the very end :)

Congratulations Amy and Mike! Thank you for letting us be a part of your special day!
