At Loma Marketing Agency, we know that your events are about more than throwing a great party—they’re opportunities to build brand awareness, generate new business, and engage with your customers and target audience. We recognized events as a powerful marketing tactic that helps both B2B and B2C companies drive revenue, provide insightful data and get in front of consumers to build connections that matter. Our agency was founded on the understanding that successful event marketing is equal parts art and science. Together, we work to create a holistic strategy for an event that meets the strategic, creative and experiential goals for companies of any sector, size, or budget.

If you’re investing in employee events, make them count.

A Kick-Off should align teams around a vision.
A Retreat should strengthen relationships.
A Company gathering should bring culture to life.

In a world increasingly being shaped by AI, authentic human connection matters more than ever.

For organizations with hybrid and distributed teams, bringing people together should do more than fill a calendar. It should create alignment, build trust, strengthen culture, and give employees a reason to feel connected to something bigger than their day-to-day work.

Last week, we talked about the Return on Connection and the different types of internal gatherings organizations can invest in. This week, we’re sharing examples of what that looks like in practice.

✨ Swipe through to see how intentional experiences can influence what people remember, feel, and do long after the event ends.

📍 Loopio Basecamp | No Icebreakers Required

A Squid Game-inspired challenge, interactive games, and social events gave employees something better than small talk, shared memories. Inclusive hybrid access helped teams reconnect around a common vision.

📍 Guild Gathers Live | The Biggest Surprise

Employees forgot what they wrote on their registration form. Guild didn’t. Every guest was surprised with their favourite snack, the biggest proof that personalized gifting beats generic swag.

📍 FM 30th Anniversary | Celebrating the People Behind the Milestone

A thoughtfully designed anniversary celebration transformed a company milestone into a shared experience. Through meaningful moments, elevated guest experiences, and opportunities to reconnect, employees and guests came together to celebrate the relationships, achievements, and culture that shaped the firm’s first 30 years.

📍 Lever Converge | From Zoom to Whale Watching

After years of virtual interactions, two days of inspiring sessions and fun activities that included whale watching, hiking through the iconic Torrey Pines, and giving back to the community through the San Diego Humane Society, helped distributed remote teams form real-world connections beyond the screen.

📍 Coconut Software | A Retreat Built Around Discovery

Many events fail before they even begin. Not because of the venue. Not because of the agenda. Not because attendees didn't enjoy the experience.

The biggest mistake organizations make is focusing on the event logistics before defining the key event objectives.

In a recent interview People News eXchange asked our Founder, Loren Maisels, "How to create a great team-building event for employees?"

To which she replied, the most successful employee experiences begin with a clear answer to one question: WHY are we doing this?

Whether the goal is stronger cross-functional collaboration, better alignment to company goals, higher engagement, or improved retention, success should be defined before the first activity is planned. Loren also highlighted another common pitfall, which is overloading agendas with endless content.

The most meaningful connections often happen in the spaces between sessions, not during back-to-back presentations. Great events are not measured by attendance or applause. They're measured by what changes after people return to work.

Not Every Company Event Is an SKO

One of the biggest gaps we see when it comes to planning employee events is treating every event the same.

A Leadership Offsite has different objectives than a Culture & Values gathering. A Product Strategy Summit requires a different approach to a Sales Kick-off. Even the way success is measured should be tied to business outcomes.

That's why at LOMA its key to start the event planning process with a simple question:

Why are we gathering in the first place?

Focussed events can help organizations:

🎯 Align teams around strategic priorities
🤝 Foster belonging and strengthen employee connection
💡 Accelerate learning and collaboration
📈 Support departmental and organizational performance

Whether you're bringing together executives, department teams, or your entire workforce, the most successful gatherings are built around purpose, not just logistics. When the purpose is clear, decisions around content, format, budget, and experience become much easier to make.

If you're responsible for employee experience, people & culture, internal events, or annual planning, now is the time to start thinking strategically about what your team needs to accomplish in 2027.

Let's get going on the strategy behind the planning togethe! We’re always so focussed on ROI but what about ROC - Return on Connection?

When it comes to employee events, you can ask most People & Culture leaders whether their SKO, retreat, leadership summit, or company gathering was successful and they’ll have plenty of evidence:

✅ Attendance rates
✅ Survey scores
✅ Positive feedback

But ask how the event strengthened culture, improved alignment, increased belonging, or deepened team connections and the answer is usually much less clear.

That’s a challenge.

Because those outcomes are increasingly the reason organizations invest in employee events in the first place.

So if employee events are expected to drive:

🎯 Alignment
🤝 Belonging
🌐 Team Connection
💡 Employee Engagement
🏢 Organizational Culture

Shouldn’t we be measuring those outcomes too?

That’s why at LOMA we are focussed on measuring the Return on Connection™ (ROC).

We’ve attached the full framework we use to help organizations think beyond attendance and explore the impact employee experiences can have on people, culture, and business outcomes.

Download the PDF, save it, and share it with your leadership teams.

If you’d like to explore how ROC could apply to your company-wide event, contact us (link in bio) or send us a message and let’s talk through the framework together!

Are you designing your events to prioritize Audience Engagement or solely Interaction?

In a world where our mobile devices are competing for our attention every second, the answer isn’t adding more content to your agenda.
It’s designing better opportunities for thoughtful participation.

We chatted with one of our partners Oren Berkovich, Founder of Projectory.live , to discuss one of the most important event metrics: ENGAGEMENT.

Going beyound surface level activities such as table conversations or networking games, true engagement is all about creating opportunities for attendees to reflect, contribute, and connect in meaningful ways.

👉 Keeping Following for Part 2: How to balance guided and open-ended interactions to create stronger audience engagement.

Don’t let your January event become an October panic.

Here’s what happens when SKO planning starts late:
- the venue you wanted is booked, so you settle for option B or C
- you’re in a crunch to get budget sign-off which delays confirming vendors
- this all leads to less time for the details that actually make the event memorable for your employees versus just another meeting to attend

One late decision in September turns into five rushed ones by December.

If you are a People & Culture, Employee Experience, or Sales & Marketing leader and your 2027 SKO, leadership retreat or offsite is even a maybe at this time, this is the month where planning either gets easier or gets harder.

Early planning often starts with questions, not answers. And what’s better than getting direction from event industry experts with 10+ years of experience?

If you don’t know where to start or need guidance? We’re happy to help you think through the planning.

No pitch, just a real conversation.
