In Memory of David Hockney, 1937–2026
A painter of light, a style icon, a master, a photographer , a pool boy and a genius. For more than sixty years, David Hockney challenged the way we see, moving effortlessly between painting, photography, drawing, and digital media. His work remained animated by curiosity, precision, and joy.

“Marjane Satrapi, the French-Iranian author, illustrator, filmmaker, and activist behind Persepolis, has passed away at the age of 56.

Through her bold visual language and deeply personal storytelling, Satrapi captivated a global audience, transforming the graphic novel into a powerful medium for exploring identity, freedom, and resilience. As Iran faces another pivotal moment in its history, her work resonates more than ever with Iranians around the world.

Her legacy remains a testament to the enduring power of art to tell the stories that matter most.

It was a great pleasure to host “Within the Highs and Lows: Young and Type 1” at Arta Gallery.
It was incredibly touching to see visitors connect with these powerful photographs and personal stories, reflecting on the realities of living with type 1 diabetes.

This exhibition served as a reminder of how art can foster understanding, spark important conversations, and create meaningful connections.
Special thanks go to St. Michael’s Hospital, the University of Toronto, Dr. Cheryl Pritlove, and all the participants who made this project possible.

Arta Gallery is proud to present “Within the Highs and Lows: Young and Type 1”, a powerful photographic exhibition exploring the lived experiences of young adults navigating type 1 diabetes.

Developed through an arts-based research study, the exhibition features participant-created photographs and personal narratives that offer an intimate look into the emotional, social, and everyday realities of living with T1D. Through their own perspectives, these young adults share stories of resilience, identity, relationships, and the moments that exist between the highs and lows.

We invite you to experience these thoughtful and deeply human visual stories at Arta Gallery.

In March 19th, the Arta Gallery and the broader art community lost one of its most unique artists. His work, voice, and evolution remain with us, as does his playful, thoughtful, and quietly powerful light. Patrick lives on through his art and in our hearts. Thank you to his family, friends, and everyone who joined us on April 24th to celebrate him and the memories he leaves behind. He was deeply loved at Arta.
