যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের করদাতাদের প্রতি আমাদের দায়িত্ব হলো অভিবাসীরা যাতে অবৈধভাবে সরকারি কল্যাণমূলক সুবিধা গ্রহণ না করেন বা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ওপর সরকারি সহায়তার বোঝা হয়ে না দাঁড়ান তা নিশ্চিত করা। স্মরণ করিয়ে দেওয়া যাচ্ছে যে, গত ২১ জানুয়ারি, ২০২৬ তারিখে ডিপার্টমেন্ট বাংলাদেশের নাগরিকদের জন্য অভিবাসী ভিসা প্রদান স্থগিত করে, কারণ বাংলাদেশের নাগরিকদের মধ্যে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সরকারি কল্যাণমূলক সুবিধা ব্যবহারের হার বেশি। এই স্থগিতাদেশের ফলে আমাদের যাচাই ও বাছাই নীতিমালা ও প্রক্রিয়াগুলোর পূর্ণাঙ্গ পর্যালোচনা করার সময় মিলবে, যাতে সেগুলো আমেরিকানদের স্বার্থকে অগ্রাধিকার দেয়। এই স্থগিতাদেশ অনভিবাসী ভিসার ক্ষেত্রে প্রযোজ্য নয়, যার মধ্যে পর্যটক বা শিক্ষার্থীদের ভিসাও অন্তর্ভুক্ত।

We owe it to American taxpayers to make sure that immigrants do not unlawfully utilize government welfare or become a public charge to the United States. As a reminder, on January 21, 2026, the Department paused the issuance of immigrant visas for Bangladesh, whose nationals have had a high rate of U.S. public welfare usage. This pause will give the Department time to conduct a full review of our screening and vetting policies and procedures to ensure they put Americans first. The pause does NOT apply to nonimmigrant visas, including tourist or student visas.
