🌱☀️What happens when you mix a few green thumbs and a little sunshine? You get the RFRK Garden Club, a staff-led initiative we've been enjoying since 2019 and lets our passion for fresh food grow in a different way, beyond the workday.
We love the way Garden Club brings together a shared interest and offers a chance to step away from our desks and connect with each other while we grow tomatoes, hot peppers and herbs like chives, cilantro, mint & parsley! 🍅🌶️🌿
It’s also a natural extension of the v t shape RFRK every day. Just as we celebrate the local farmers who strengthen our food system, our Garden Club nurtures the curiosity that inspires people to get closer to the source of their food.

Get pumped up, we’re SQUASHING the myth that pumpkin is just for the fall! ☀️Our Pumpkin & Beans* is a savoury, plant-based meal with pumpkin, tomato, kidney beans and yummy herbs & spices. We love this dish because it shows how this ingredient can be enjoyed well beyond Halloween: kind of like a vegetarian chili, with pumpkin creating a unique & delicious base. Every hearty bite is balanced with either Canadian quinoa or a locally baked whole wheat roll (no sauce goes to waste!). Also served with bell pepper and orange.

Rogers (Cherokee Nation) and illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight (Chickasaw Nation). The story celebrates one of those moments that feels magical for kids: spending the day outside with the grown-ups and knowing something delicious is waiting at the end. Follow a young Cherokee girl and her family as they search for this super special ingredient while preparing for a joyful community feast.

One of the best things about this meal is how customizable it can be! Our favourite way to enjoy it is with everything together: hummus, cheddar cheese slice, and apple layered onto the multigrain pita bun. But in classic choose-your-own-adventure style, there are no rules: maybe the hummus becomes an apple dip, while the cheese finds its way into a sandwich. 🍎🧀

June 7 is World Food Safety Day. ✅🌎 This year's theme, "From burden to solutions: safe food everywhere," recognizes the actions that help reduce foodborne illness and make food safer for everyone.
It's a day to reflect on food safety at both the local and global level, and to appreciate all the people who help make it happen. At Real Food For Real Kids, food safety is part of every meal and snack we serve. From our HACCP certification to allergen management to responding quickly when recalls or safety concerns arise, protecting kids is number 1!
