Introducing Jeanette Posine! Hailing from Pays Plat First Nation, Jeanette is the proud owner of The Bannock Lady
Bannock is a traditional Indigenous bread that holds a special place in Jeanette's heart as it is a recipe that has been passed down through generations in her family. Using only three simple ingredients - flour, baking powder, and water - Jeanette makes her Bannock by hand, ensuring it is light, fluffy, and simply irresistible. Her modern twist on this traditional delicacy involves deep frying, resulting in a delectable treat that has captured the hearts and taste buds of many.
The journey of The Bannock Lady began when Jeanette noticed a lack of Indigenous foods at the Folklore Festival in Thunder Bay. Determined to share her heritage with the community, she set up a tent, offering her freshly made bannock to festival-goers. After countless nights of perfecting her recipe, The Bannock Lady was born.
Since then, Jeanette has become a well-known figure at city events, eventually leading her to open her own restaurant, where the Bannock Burger and Indian Taco have become fan favorites, delighting both Indigenous and non-Indigenous customers alike.
Jeanette takes pride in showcasing Indigenous foods and providing an opportunity for everyone to experience its rich flavors and cultural significance. Through her dedication and passion, The Bannock Lady has become a beloved establishment, celebrating tradition one delicious bite at a time.
The next time you are at the Intercity Shopping Centre, be sure drop by and visit Jeanette to experience the delicious taste and texture of her bannock for yourself.
