Happy Feast of Saint Joseph! 🇮🇹
The Tavola di San Giuseppe — the Saint Joseph’s Table — is one of the most beautiful traditions in Italian and Italian American culture. Every March 19th, families set up elaborate altars piled with sculpted breads, zeppole, fruit, nuts, and meatless dishes, all offered in gratitude to the patron saint of Sicily, fathers, and carpenters.
The tradition goes back to a medieval Sicilian vow — if St. Joseph ended a devastating drought and saved them from famine, they would feast in his honor every year. The rains came. And Italian Americans have been keeping that promise ever since.
In Italy, today is also Father’s Day. 🌹
