THIS … ( it’s a really long and important one to share ) it is something that is so DAMN important to make public and create MORE awareness. Thanks to listwithlinz & theel for hosting this!
This fundraiser was to help raise $ and support our local women’s shelter ( Cornerstone Family Violence Protection ).
Lindsey has been such a huge advocate for this cause and she has done so much for this.
As a victim myself, I spent months in the shelter with my son.
At the time he was almost 5 years old ( he still has some memories, but mostly good from the safety and comfort of the shelter ).
I was so fortunate and so forever grateful for the safe place to go to when I had no where to turn.
I will be honest …
Starting over was scary as F*CK and I was so beyond lost …
I was always that “independent and strong woman “, but that was gone.
I was afraid of what others thought of me and my situation, the abuse that I was going through
was emotional, financial and physical.
My friends and family were slowly diminished and I was ALONE.
My breaking point was when I suffered a fractured neck from having my head slammed on the floor repeatedly …
I’ve never admitted that to anyone, until this moment!
How crazy is that ?
You are a victim and worried about what your family, your friends and everyone else think of you!
YOU …
Trying to hide your bruises, your shame, your weaknesses, trying to protect your kid(s), worrying about money, trying to escape and break free without judgement …
I planned to leave for many MONTHS, how to escape ( including my business and trying to take care of my employees ).
I stayed in the first women’s shelter outside Kingston, then I came back to my hometown ( Cobourg ) and stayed here .
It was my stepping point to moving forward and making a better life for MYSELF and my SON.
I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am because of all of this.
I am SHARING my story so I can HELP someone else!
I am STRONGER now and I am beyond grateful for the support and help I got !
Don’t be afraid, reach out and talk about your story, it will help someone else get the courage to leave!
