🇨🇦🇵🇹 In Memory of Corporal Anthony Joseph Boneca
The Portuguese Canadian Club of Strathroy was incredibly honoured to receive an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) donated in memory of Corporal Anthony Joseph Boneca.
Corporal Boneca served with the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment and lost his life on July 9, 2006, while serving Canada in Afghanistan. He was only 21 years old.
His story holds an especially meaningful place within the Portuguese Canadian community, as Corporal Boneca was the only registered Portuguese Canadian to lose his life in combat while serving Canada.
The AED was donated through the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization founded in 2009 by Sergeant Patrick Armstrong. The fund raises money to purchase and donate AEDs throughout our communities, with each one dedicated in memory of a soldier, paramedic, police officer or firefighter who lost their life in the line of duty.
For our club, it is difficult to imagine a more meaningful dedication. This AED has the potential to save a life while carrying forward the name and memory of a young Portuguese Canadian who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Carlos Cruz, who recommended the Portuguese Canadian Club of Strathroy for this honour. We are incredibly grateful to Carlos, Patrick, the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, and everyone involved in making this dedication possible.
The AED will now have a permanent home at our club
