ICYMI! 🔦

"Since the beginning of this journey, one of the strongest themes we’ve heard is just how valuable it is for the arts community to have opportunities to come together and connect — and that there’s a real need for more of those moments."

When they purchased the old Masonic building on Cathedral Street in downtown St. John's four years ago, Morgan and Duncan MacRae started to put their plans into motion of turning the space into a local arts and cultural hub. They've been focused on that vision ever since and recently, formed The Marlowe Foundation to help see their plans through.

The Marlowe Foundation

The Resource Centre for the Arts is pleased to acknowledge the generous support of The Marlowe Foundation. With their funding commitment over the next three years, RCA will be able to further build our capacity, upholding our ongoing mandate of providing accessible, supportive, and well-resourced programs and venues. With their thoughtful contribution, The Marlowe Foundation continues to demonstrate their pledge in supporting arts, culture, and community in Newfoundland and Labrador, and across Canada. Strong roots make for strong trees, and our friends at the Marlowe Foundation are working hard to make sure the whole forest continues to thrive. We look forward to continuing to work with them in the years to come.

We’re already two weeks into 2026, and as the year gains momentum, we’ve been taking a moment to look back at everything 2025 set in motion for The Masonic Project and beyond.

In 2025, The Masonic Project team expanded our vision with the launch of The Marlowe Foundation. This new organization supports The Masonic as its flagship project while also giving back across NL and Canada.

In its first year, the Foundation contributed $400,000 toward initiatives nationwide - thanks to the incredible work of the artists, partners, and communities who make this impact possible. It also sponsored and participated in arts-focused programs, and marked a major milestone with its public launch event in December. You can now follow The Marlowe Foundation or visit themarlowefoundation.ca to learn more!

For The Masonic Project specifically, the team engaged technical theatre and operational experts earlier in the year to ensure the artistic vision is supported by strong, functional infrastructure. Structural remediation, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance continued throughout the year.

By year’s end, an exciting opportunity led to the purchase of property as the hopeful future home of The Marlowe Foundation, with potential space to fully realize the long-term vision and needs of The Masonic Project. Together with our architect and design teams, we are now working with City officials to explore what’s possible.

Grateful for what 2025 brought. Excited for what’s next. Thanks for following along!
