This original 1867 Schoolhouse window has been repurposed to share the building’s unique history.

News Alert: $100,000 Ontario Government Grant Supports Accessibility Renovations at Schoolhouse Theatre

Kitchener, ON – In September 2023, Drayton Entertainment was awarded a $100,000 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to improve accessibility for theatregoers and community members at the Hildebrand Schoolhouse Theatre, St. Jacobs.

When two strangers meet by letter during World War II, a wartime romance begins to develop. U.S. Army Captain Jack Ludwig, a military doctor stationed in Oregon, begins writing to Louise Rabiner, an aspiring actress and dancer in New York City, hoping to meet her someday … if the war will allow. But as the conflict rages on, their relationship is threatened before it even starts.

Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment, is pleased to announce today that the St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre will be renamed the Hildebrand Schoolhouse Theatre St. Jacobs in recognition of the sustained support of community philanthropists Henry and Grace Hildebrand.

As the previous owner and operator of St. Jacobs Place, a luxury independent / assisted living facility in the community, the Hildebrand family has been attending productions at the Schoolhouse Theatre for more than two decades.

The new name will take effect for the 2024 Season. The Burlington couple has generously donated $1 million to help with a planned renovation to the layout and functionality of the 1867 Schoolhouse Theatre, located at 11 Albert St. W. in the village of St. Jacobs.
