It was truly impressive to see you all working as a team to pull off - you even inspired one of the kids, Cohen (see the pic of this helpful cutie) to join in as a junior volunteer -great work everyone! 🤩

On now! 'Nature’s Attraction'
Show Times: 10am – 4pm, daily August 22 – 28

Exhibition Details: The ArtSea Gallery will be displaying two visual artists who will be selling paintings, cards, and fabric art wall hangings. Margo Styan’s fabric art consists of memories from her life including from her 2 decades spent in the Yukon, now with many west coast influences. Many of the fabrics were hand-dyed by her husband, and they continue to work together more and more. And Faith Livingstone’s impressionist style reflects her love of colour and whimsy. She has, over the years, worked in pastels, oils, mixed media, watercolours and alcohol inks. She is currently working mainly in acrylics. Her subjects vary from landscapes to portraits, to florals. Faith’s art has been juried into art shows in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Winnipeg Sketch Club) Vancouver Island (Sooke Fine Arts Show and Victoria Federation of Canadian Artists) and the BC Interior (Federation of Canadian Artists OASIS and The Lake Country Art Walk). Faith has also had a number of successful shows in Victoria and Sidney BC. Many of her paintings are in private collections throughout western Canada.

Participants: Margo Styan & Faith Livingstone

Opening today in the gallery: The Wild and the Cultivated
Show Times: 10am – 4pm, daily August 8-14

Exhibition Details: The Wild and the Cultivated is a collective show and sale featuring the work of three artists across different mediums. With pottery by Sonia Lesage, jewellery by Busted Button, and paintings by Arabella Young, these artists explore the wild and cultivated world around us.

Sonia creates earthy, functional pottery with a soft, west coast-inspired palette. Her simple forms and quiet designs reflect the subtle textures and rhythms of nature. Dot, of Busted Button, makes unique jewellery using dried flowers and playful elements that celebrate local landscapes and gardens. Arabella paints both the wild beauty of Vancouver and Vancouver Island, and florals cultivated from her own garden.

If you're looking for a nice outing, here's a little gem that may not be on your radar: The Centre of the Universe - our local observatory is open for viewing in the daytime this summer!

Fun observatory facts: The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory is a designated National Historical Site. The 106-year old Plaskett Telescope was the largest in the world when it opened. It is still used nightly for scientific research. Tour the telescope and learn the history of this amazing machine that mapped the Milky Way Galaxy.

They also say: The Centre of the Universe offers the unique experience of visiting the historic Plaskett telescope. We also have our exhibit gallery, complete with planetarium showing the stars and full dome movies, and virtual reality experiences

Well worth a visit!
