We are excited to introduce our final Wellness Panelist, Pearleen Kanewopasikot! 💕✨

Pearleen Kanewopasikot is from Poundmaker Cree Nation. She is a mother of three adult sons and a grandmother to Angeleah Bugler from Sweetgrass. Her career in education has spanned over three decades. Pearleen was raised in a ceremonial and cultural way and speaks fluent Cree in the Y dialect. She has travelled many places throughout the world and has taken up an interest in exploring different cultures. She enjoys being a Kohkom and spending time with her nosim (granddaughter).

Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan (EFSK) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women and gender-diverse individuals who are criminalized or at risk of criminalization. Through advocacy, cultural teachings, and practical support, we work to remove barriers to justice, equity, and reintegration. Our programs include court and bail support, reintegration services, addiction recovery, housing initiatives, and cultural programming. With a vision of a world where imprisonment is a thing of the past, we strive to empower individuals, challenge systemic inequities, and create pathways toward healing and community connection.

We are excited to have Cara Riendeau be part of our event once again! She will join our Wellness Panel to discuss emotion regulation. 💕✨

Cara Riendeau is trained as a clinical counsellor with a bachelor of social work from the University of Regina and is registered with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers. She has worked with the Saskatchewan Health Authority since 2011, working in diverse roles as a case manager, addictions counsellor, clinical counsellor and senior lead working with marginalised populations in the Saskatoon core. She currently works casually at Calder Rehab centre and also has her own clinical counselling private practice based in Saskatoon.

She has completed a 200 hour Sivananda yoga teacher training in 2017, 85 hour prenatal yoga teacher training in 2018 and became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in 2023.She specializes working with adult women to support them to manage generalized anxiety, depression, panic, and PTSD.

We are excited to introduce Ashley Breland, one of our speakers for the Wellness Panel! 💕✨

Ashley is a dedicated Métis social work therapist and owner of Breland Counselling & Consulting. With a profound dedication to anti-oppressive practices and a trauma-informed approach, she empowers individuals to embrace their inherent strength and navigate their unique challenges through collaborative dialogues. Ashley emphasizes the importance of understanding and establishing boundaries in both her online presence and therapy space, exploring how they can lead to greater joy and liberation in life.

She addresses the complexities of boundary-setting, the reasons it can be challenging, and how fostering healthy boundaries can transform relationships and personal well-being. Rooted in intersectional feminist values, Ashley actively confronts both internal and systemic oppressions, guiding her clients toward a holistic sense of empowerment and freedom.

Hey everyone...the event is not free and we will be deleting and blocking accounts who post disrespectful comments on our page. In extreme cases we will black list people from attending. This event is supposed to be about uplifting and encouraging each other as Indigenous women. IWES Speaker Announcement! 🌟

Michelle Nieviadomy is a member of Kawacatoose First Nation in Saskatchewan. While her roots are in Saskatchewan, she has called Edmonton home for over twenty years. 

She has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and is currently in a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology program. 

Michelle Nieviadomy is a wellness advocate.  She has been in the fitness & wellness industry for over 15 years with her business Iskwew Health-promoting wellness Indigenously.  Along with being an entrepreneur, innovator, community builder and goal getter, she currently is Assistant Director of a community organization-Edmonton Native Healing Centre. 

She co-founded Healing Her Homefire, a grassroots initiative providing community care, advocacy and education for the vulnerable community experiencing homelessness. 

She believes movement is medicine and connection is everything.

Morning Keynote Speaker Announcement! 🎉

Dr. Shazma Mithani is an Emergency Physician in Edmonton practicing both adult and pediatric emergency medicine. Her clinical work also includes roles as a trauma team leader and STARS air ambulance physician.

Her true passion is in health education and advocacy, which stems from her work during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues today in her roles with the Canadian Medical Association, Alberta Medical Association, Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton and daily on her social media platforms. She is a regular guest on various traditional media platforms and podcasts (including high profile shows like The Papaya Podcast and Dr. Jody Carrington’s Everyone Comes from Somewhere). She has also been a recurring columnist and various CBC Edmonton shows. 

Dr. Mithani has been recognized for her advocacy expertise as a recipient of Edify Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 award in 2022, the CAEP (Canadian Association of Emergency Physician) Dr. Alan Drummond Advocacy Award in 2024 and more recently the Medical Post Media Engagement Award - Trailblazer. 

When she’s not fighting the good fight for our healthcare system, Shazma enjoys being outdoors with her family, running around on the ultimate frisbee field and improving her tennis skills.

Keynote Speaker Announcement 🎉

Andrea Menard is an accomplished Métis singer/songwriter, actor, speaker, wellness trainer, and the founder of the Sacred Feminine Learning Lodge. As seen in USA Today, Andrea is an influencer in feminine leadership and was named one of WXN Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner in 2020.

One of the co-stars of the new hit CTV series, Sullivan’s Crossing, Andrea is a five-time Gemini-nominated actress, a 16-time music award winner, and was named ACTRA National’s “Woman of the Year” for 2021. She has released 5 award-winning albums, and has performed for royalty, prime ministers, governor generals, residential school survivors, families of the missing and murdered Indigenous women, and even sang her song “Peace” to the world’s NATO generals.
