Maybe it’s time for a South Okanagan day trip! 🚗

Stop for lunch at a locally owned restaurant. Visit a farm stand or roadside market. Wander through some independent shops. Pick up locally grown produce or locally made products — and maybe even get a head start on your holiday shopping with gifts from local makers and businesses.

You don’t have to spend a fortune. A whole lot of people making the conscious decision to spend a little locally can make a very big difference.

The South Okanagan has supported visitors with wonderful food, wine, produce, experiences and hospitality for years. Right now, we have an opportunity to return the favour. ❤️🇨🇦

Take the drive. Explore. Eat local. Shop local. Support local.
And please share this article — reminding others that these communities are ready to welcome visitors back is another simple way we can help.

The Okanagan is open for business and ready to receive tourists, officials say

I’m trying to use this page to highlight Canadian businesses and organizations (especially if they are women and/or Indigenous owned/led) doing meaningful work in our communities — and this one checks so many boxes. 🇨🇦💜

U Grow Girl is a Canadian, women-owned and women-led organization right here in our region, doing incredibly important work supporting women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Their 'Time To Heal Retreats' provide free, trauma-informed opportunities for survivors to heal, connect and be supported — work that is both necessary and deserving of our community’s support.

Their upcoming Fashion for Freedom fundraiser is also a wonderful example of how doing good can have more than one benefit. Donating quality clothing keeps perfectly wearable items out of our landfills, gives them a second life, and gives women an opportunity to find beautiful clothing and accessories without paying retail prices. ♻️👗

So this is supporting Canadian, supporting women, supporting survivors, saving money and reducing waste — all at the same time. That’s the kind of local initiative worth getting behind. ❤️🇨🇦

If you’re in the Shuswap or Okanagan, take a look through your closet and consider donating those beautiful pieces you simply don’t wear anymore — and then come out to Fashion for Freedom on September 19 at Grow Girl Farm in Salmon Arm.

Sometimes something as simple as passing along a dress really can help change someone else’s life.

YOUR DRESS CAN HELP CHANGE A LIFE. 🎗️

Friends across the Shuswap + Okanagan, we need your help.

Our annual Fashion for Freedom fundraiser returns to the U Grow Girl Farm on Saturday, September 19 from 1–4 PM, and right now we urgently need clothing donations to help fill our racks.

Last year, our community showed up in an extraordinary way. You cleaned out closets, passed along beautiful pieces you no longer wore, and helped us fill rack after rack.

Those clothes became something much bigger.

They helped women heal.

Fashion for Freedom helps fund U Grow Girl’s Time To Heal Retreats—free, trauma-informed healing retreats for women who survived childhood sexual abuse.

This year, we need to fill those racks again. 🎗️

We’re looking for clean, new or gently loved:

👗 Women’s clothing—from casual to formal
đź‘  Shoes
👜 Handbags
✨ Jewelry + accessories
🧣 Scarves, belts, hats + more

And yes—we gratefully accept clothing from ALL seasons.

Think of the beautiful pieces you would genuinely be excited to find yourself—the dress you loved, the jacket you never reach for, the handbag waiting for its next adventure.
