True Colors by Cyndi Lauper was just on the radio station I listen to
This song makes me tear up every single time I hear it. Not because it was released to honour her friend who was dying from AIDS, but because, in my mind, it speaks for everyone that believes they are different, not the norm.
It is your differences that make you unique, special, important, memorable, missable, desirable, worthy.

Never be embarrassed of who you are or your True Colors (Colours for us Canadians).

You are important. You do make a difference. You are worthy. You belong. You make the world go around. You deserve a seat at the table. You bring purpose. You are funny. You are helpful. You have history. You make history. You educate. You learn. You are needed.

You make the world a better place because you are in it.

Never forget that.

Let's talk about yesterday, shall we?

I was honoured to perform my first fully personalized wedding ceremony for two amazing people that I am privileged to also call friends.
Perfectly placed in a shaded area, close to the pond with a little creek as the sun peeked through surrounded by family and close friends and of course those little bugs whose job is to fly into every or***ce on your face.

The bride looked stunning as she arrived. The groom was dashing as he walked to meet her. The smiles said it all.

Their vows came from their hearts to the hearts of those in attendance. Promises were made and both of them spoke of the encouragement, safety, laughter and love each of them brought to the table.

The dinner was phenomenal, the speeches filled with love. The random singing throughout dinner to Sweet Caroline, Bohemian Rhapsody and others was perfectly out of pitch.

Congratulations Adam Vandermey and Jeanette Gough as you begin to write this chapter and thank you for trusting me to tell your story.

Much love, light and happiness now and forever

For a family member that recently got married

She was there

From your first breath, she was there
With your first steps, she was there
For your first word, she was there
Your first day of school, she was there
With every injury, she was there
When you were scared, she was there
If you were brave, she was there
When you needed your ass kicked, she was there
Every time you made her proud, she was there
For every milestone, she was there
When you were an as***le, she was there
If you didn't think you could, she was there
If you needed your crown straightened, she was there
When you needed a reality check, she was there
If you stumbled, she was there
With every celebration, she was there
For every tear, she was there
When you needed a reason to smile, she was there

When you opened your eyes that morning, she was there
As you slipped on your dress, she was there
As you walked down the aisle, she was there
When the breeze kissed your forehead, she was there
As the sun warmed your heart, she was there
When you said I do, she was there
As you shared your first kiss, she was there
When you danced to that first song, she was there

Your Mom has been there with you, whether near or far. You can feel her presence as her favourite song plays, you will hear her voice in the breeze, feel her warmth in the sunflowers as they bloom and her love will surround you on every adventure you take because she is there.

So I had a quick little wedding ceremony today.
Yes, on a Monday
The day of the week doesn't matter. If the day holds significance for you, then we will do it that day.
You want a quickie? I can do that for you. Today, from the time I arrived until the time we started to sign all the important papers was about 12 minutes. From what I hear, it was the best ceremony ever, time wise and hopefully it checked all the boxes in every other aspect.
You want it long, slow and touching on all your important things, we can do that as well.
You are the mistress/master of YOUR day. Plain and simple, elegant or in the language you speak, long enough that you need to throw in an intermission, heartfelt and beyond emotional (they all are)?
That's what I do. Every. Single. Time.

Written for a friend

A little girl's hero is her Dad. The man she loved first and will love until her last breath. She will adore her protector, her teacher, her defender, her mentor, her aggravator, her safe place, her cheerleader until the end of time.

She will look for the traits he displays in a partner, which means they have big shoes to fill.

He needs to be gentle, funny, loving with a heart big enough to love more than himself, but also hard enough to see the deception in the ones out to take advantage.

He has to light up a room with his smile, the same smile that brings enough comfort to make you laugh when all you want to do is cry.

He needs the strength to handle her on her worst days and the pride to celebrate her on her best days.

He needs to know when to step back and let her fall and when to step in to help her back up again.

He has to step in to listen to her fears, her worries, her rants and raves.

He needs to hug her tight enough when life is too much so that her broken pieces can begin to mend.

He needs to encourage her to follow her dreams when she doubts her abilities. Push her to think outside the box and step beyond her comfort zone.

He needs to show her how to be strong for herself and those closest to her because life just isn't fair and everyone needs a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen and a little bit of time.

Since Daddy's little girl is still deep within her, she will hold his hand, sit beside him, help him find his smile, tell him he is loved, tell him he's always been her hero and reluctantly bid him farewell.... with tears in her eyes, a smile on her face, more love in her heart even though that heart is not ready to let him go.

Sweet little ceremony today. As the weather was amazing for Southwestern Ontario for February, it became an outdoor ceremony a short walk from the original spot in a gazebo in the park.
Congratulations to J and J as you start your new chapter as a married couple :)

A 50th Wedding anniversary I recently did

It started with a simple introduction between Lizzy/Lizard and Cool Whip, thanks to Rose Edwards. It planted a seed for something a little more than acquaintances. It began with simply spending time getting to know one another and the deal was sealed when Lizzy found out that Bob could jump over her head. It blossomed a little more. It grew and strengthened, creating roots. This spread into feelings that created every waking thought of each other. During an intimate moment, with Norma and Walt by your side, the new story began. A simple celebration to solidify your promises, your hopes and your dreams began the first chapter. Without much fanfare, a future began from love and a commitment between two, without concern or input from others a foundation was formed.

As the years progressed new chapters were written, new supporting characters emerged and a story for all time began to unfold. Work careers started, new friends were made, and your family grew (both related and chosen). Regardless, each and every member of your family soon learned that if there was something you needed, Lizzy and Bob were always there.

Family vacations to Florida, solo vacations to Mexico that captured your hearts and recently time spent at the trailer or the cottage with family and friends that were family. Extravagant Halloween costumes from a bowling pin to Mr. Peanut every year along with the best goody haul for those that stopped in to bid you Trick or Treat kept them coming back year after year.

Now we all know that Lizzy has the gift of gab, it's a family trait. That always left Bob quietly 'Waiting on a Woman', no matter how long that may take. A quick trip to the Dollar store was never a quick trip. Quickly grabbing something from Walmart always lead to multiple conversations with multiple relatives, co-workers, random strangers or store associates. It was always an adventure and definitely not boring, but Bob never seemed to mind. His patience runs deep and always has as he stood by patiently until the impromptu visit ended.

Whether it was a laugh fest at the exact moment you needed it, a helping hand fixing something, advice, encouragement, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, a hug when the day was too heavy to carry on your own, a visit, to check up on someone, a porch drop off when you couldn't make it out of the house, the constant was always Lizzy and Bob.

You have stood the test of time, you’ve struggled, pushed through, persevered and come out on top together. Half a century is far and beyond the time that most couples have survived. You have picked your battles and you have shown those in your life the dedication it takes to not only love and tolerate each other but also have provided for your children, grandchildren, friends and family the affirmation that true love is alive and well and achievable for a lifetime. You have set the bar high and given hope to those that often wondered if it was worth looking for.

It seems that the below are words you have brought to reality over the last 50 years you spent together as you lived, loved, lost, struggled and celebrated as friends, lovers and partners in this thing called life. The bond you have formed is one to be envious of and to strive for and you seem to pull it off so seamlessly.

In all things love be open to the boundless possibilities of new days after long nights.
In all things love be transparent in your emotions, for the hidden emotion is like a wound that needs to heal from within.
In all things love blend for each other a spectrum of colours, look to nature for guidance for no hue is a match or a clash but perfect in its imperfection.
In all things love glide to the music of your dance, find your steps, allow for each other to take the lead and hear the unique rhythm of your togetherness.
In all things love be to each other the sounding board of big decisions and use the gift of simplicity for everything else.
In all things love, wrap yourselves in this day where you joined hearts and committed to being for each other, the love of all things.

Congratulations on 600 months of happiness, 2600 weeks of laughter, 18,250 days of understanding, 438,000 hours of love. Happy Anniversary to one amazing couple who is loved more than they know.

I hope you had a gentle holiday

I hope you celebrated in a way that put a smile on your face

I hope you enjoyed time with people that hug your heart and accept you as you are

I hope you took the time to do things for you

I hope you stopped, if only for a minute to breathe

I hope you made excuses (to yourself) as to why you didn't go somewhere that you just couldn't

I hope you indulged in a meal shared with those you are comfortable with

I hope you shared your smile with everyone you encountered

I hope you had some time away from work

I hope you made plans for the new year

I hope you gave yourself the opportunity to sing your song in the key of you

I hope you had the chance to tell someone exactly what they mean to you

I hope you understand you're important to someone

I hope you know you make a difference

I hope you found your spark that will light the fire within you

I hope you know that it was enough

I hope you turned away from the toxicity

I hope you know your feelings are justified

I hope you know it will get better, in your own time

I hope you know you are loved

I hope are okay

I hope you had a gentle holiday
