Since 2023, I’ve been honoured to take home 1st Place every year in the annual pie baking contest, and here we are, gearing up for the 2025 competition!

I’ve been brainstorming, experimenting, and whipping up some creative new ideas to make this year’s pie the best yet. But I need YOUR help!

Happy Easter to All! 🌸

Easter is such a special time of the year—a moment to come together, reflect, and celebrate love, renewal, and hope. It’s more than just the arrival of spring or a time for colorful eggs and sweet treats; it’s a powerful reminder that even in the darkest nights, a bright and beautiful dawn always follows. Through the resurrection of Jesus, we are offered forgiveness, a fresh start, and a message of boundless love that transcends time.

Many believe the word "Easter" has an interesting history too! While some think it’s tied to pagan origins, its roots actually trace back to Old German, where "Oster" is linked to "resurrection." William Tyndale, during his work translating the Bible in 1525, used it to represent "Pascha," which referred to the Jewish Passover. With this connection, the term became synonymous with this season of hope and transformation.

Easter isn’t just a celebration of faith—it’s also an opportunity to highlight the importance of love, compassion, and togetherness in our lives. It’s a day to share with family and friends, strengthen relationships, and find beauty in new beginnings. No matter how you celebrate, Easter is a chance to grow and reflect.

I did this for about 3 years straight and then took a break last year as my third baby was due right around Easter

Well, it’s Groundhog Day…again! 🎩 🐾🌷

Every year on February 2, crowds gather, sometimes swelling to as many as 40,000 people, to celebrate Groundhog Day—a tradition steeped in folklore and fun.

Though the event's popularity has since settled back to a more manageable audience of about 10,000 attendees, it remains a significant draw, capturing the hearts of fans from all over. Fun fact: the iconic movie Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray, has further fueled this cultural phenomenon. Murray, interestingly enough, was a real-life golf caddy before his acting days.

Many of the outdoor scenes from the beloved film were shot in Woodstock, Illinois, which has since become a pilgrimage spot for enthusiasts. Visitors often flock to landmarks like the downtown gazebo, the Tip Top Cafe, and the house used as the Bed and Breakfast in the movie. They can even catch a glimpse of Woodstock Willie, the local weather-forecasting groundhog who carries on the town’s unique tradition.

February 2 also shares significance with Candlemas Day, tied to an old proverb, “Half the wood and half the hay, better have left on Candlemas Day.” This saying reminds us of a time when survival through winter required careful planning and rationing. Meanwhile, Groundhog Day folklore adds a whimsical twist—if the groundhog sees his shadow, it’s said we’re in for six more weeks of winter. If there’s no shadow, it’s a sign that spring is on the horizon. Either way, the day serves as a playful weather predictor and a mark of hopeful anticipation for the changing seasons.
