I had a surprising email this morning from Johnny Citro's niece advising me that he had passed away July 31, 2025. I will miss him. He was an awesome chef and we were developing a friendship based on our mutual interests.

RIP Chef Johnny !!!

Great news story today, on the heels of the two break in sad events. Dropped by the Cenotaph on Yonge Street this afternoon and the barrier is up ... the work is beginning. A number of improvements expected but the best will be the upgrade of the lettering. The WW1 names (lower level) and the obelisk names at the back were illegible from a distance. Great work Councilor Scott Thompson, Mayor David West and the rest of Council for making this happen.

Branch 375 has been rather unlucky over the past 35 hours with two visits by a couple of low life’s who have decided that things that belong to the Legion are theirs for the taking.

The first visit on Sunday (Oct 12) evening at 8:10 PM involved two individuals on bicycles and they removed a few things from a newly acquired container (which was not locked – now it is). Stuff taken was not of high value, but it was ours not theirs !!!

The next visit was this morning (Oct 14) at 7:12 AM when one individual showed up with a green shopping cart in tow. He was caught in the act by a contractor who was there to pick up some of his equipment. The low-life quickly pulled together his stuff and pedalled away – rather hastily.

In both instances as they departed, they turned west on Centre Street heading towards the railroad crossing.

If you recognize either one, please leave a private message here, or if you wish please contact York Regional Police (1-866-876-5423) and reference Incident # 25-341752.

Prepping for the District E Convention this weekend we had to replace our Legion sign on the front of the building. Great help from some volunteers. Comrades Turtlebury, Sansone, Fitzgerald, dePaulsen and Toms. Recorded for posterity so we know how to do it next time.

Annual exercise ..... Hang all Banners in the Main Hall, so that they have no wrinkles when they get placed on Yonge Street later in October. Today I hung these. Still 18 left to hand and they are laying flat with weights to eliminate some major wrinkles.

Also hung, as appropriate, just in time for the District E Meeting this weekend for Legion.
